Odd nerve thing?

I noticed some bumps on the back of my shoulders yesterday, it felt like a rash. Didn't think much of it.

This morning I felt a rush of stinging sensation across the area - the whole width of my back, just the top three inches or so. It lasted about 10 seconds, sort of sparkling all over the place rather than constant, and was surprisingly painful.

I had it again a second time, as far as I remember it was when I was picking at a scab on my leg which was painful (I think this is relevant!). I asked DH to have a look and he said it was bumpy but not red or anything.

I've had it again twice more, so four (or maybe five? I can't really remember) times in total today; the most recent was when I was injecting my diabetes medication into my stomach. It felt as if maybe it was related, like when I was picking at the scab; as if it's some sort of nervous system issue.

Has anyone experienced anything like this before?

Shingles?

Biznatch · 02/12/2023 13:35

Definitely sounds like shingles, mine was on my back and it felt like there were pins sticking in my back when I put my t-shirt on.

If you think it might be shingles, the gp can prescribe anti-virals which help.

I'm not totally convinced; it's across my whole back. Bilateral shingles is very rare, according to Dr Google.

Yeah, just had another one and it's definitely all the way across the top of my back. Not a one-sided thing at all. It happened when I shivered; I swear, it happens when something happens my nervous system.

Idk what you've been reading but I've known many people to have shingles across their back, particularly across both shoulders or hips.

Lhermitte's sign?

Biznatch · 02/12/2023 15:36

True. You could always ask at a pharmacy, they are usually pretty good with rashes /skin stuff.
