Dribbling

About six weeks ago I was talking and felt coffee dribble out of my mouth. I was embarrassed but kind of didn't think much of it. It's happening a lot now. Both sides and it feels sore in the corners. I'm 50 and my mouth droops. I think it's caused the soreness and bit visa versa - I've had angular chellitis before. What to do????

@ohdearwhatcan no answer yet. The GP assessed the muscles round my mouth and suggested exercises, with a review. I also saw a facial rejuvenation consultant (also a medical doctor) privately via a cosmetic route and explained the issue - they couldn't explain it as a fat loss/drooping issue.

thanks for the reply @OneFrenchEgg

oh that's interesting - googling suggested amongst other things that it could be a vitamin B or iron deficiency - but I'm assuming that hasn't been suggested to you?

No blood tests all normal

@OneFrenchEgg but did the doctors suggest any deficiencies to you as a possible cause? did you ahve blood tests specifically because of this? what were they testing for did they tell you?

Hi - yes sorry not clear. I was getting angular chellitis so they did a blood test for anemia and I discovered as a side issue that I have a low thyroid which may cause dry mouth.

ah - got you thanks. so anaemia is a potenital cause then? that's really helpful. will pass it on.

@ohdearwhatcan hi so the thyroid treatment may have made a difference.
Also - googling led me to sugar being an issue re: dry mouth/excess drool (don't really understand).
So I realised I had started eating a handful of sweets every night and stopped doing this - big change. It was quite a random habit I'd got into, I never really ate sweets that much and I'd started having them at night.

Hiya, sorry to hear you’re having this issue! I’m actually having something similar. However, I’m 27 so don’t think mine is an age thing and have noticed I drool very slightly at the corners of my mouth which have caused me to have AC many times and think I’ve been left with permanent scarring on one side of my mouth where I’ve had AC so much..

I spoke to my GP about it and she didn’t seem too worried at all! She just said to put Vaseline in the corners to keep it from drying out. I asked about how to stop the drooling and asked if she can suggest any mouth exercises for me to try and also asked if she could refer me to a specialist for further tests to be done but she just said nope, I can’t do anything like that just put Vaseline on it.

so I felt a bit deflated after that, so went home and decided to book an appointment for a private dentist as after doing lots of research, i found that dentist could be the best place to go as they are specialist with mouths and should hopefully understand about the mouth muscles and what could be causing it.

not sure if they’ll find the reason and be able to help or not but I thought it was worth a try, if not then hopefully they refer me to someone else for further tests!!
