ds2 is still having coughing fits. doc says its because he has a runny nose (WTF??!!), anyway another afternnon off nursery now as he keeps coughing and choking and has been for almost an hour now.

Getting a little more worried. Doc given him meds for "respiratory congestion", but he is still struggling with this cough.

Have tried hot/warm and cold drinks and nothing seems to help.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!

snuffle babe is quite good its like vicks but suitbale for babies from 3 months. You could try tiltling his mattress a bit so his chest opens easier wont stop the coughing as such but will help him breath a bit better over night

How old is he? If over 1, a teaspoon of honey can help with coughing.

steam is great for [apologise for spelling] bronchitus, bronchiollitus and most things sinus, lung and nose related.try boiling the kettle over and over and running a hot bath and the two of you just sitting in the bathroom for a while.

I have put Vics vapour rub on the soles of my DDs feet before (tip off here). It was miraculous - next morning, all but gone.

If you can lay your hands on a humidifier, do - especially a cool mist one. dd2 had bronchiolitis as a teeny baby, and has slept with one much of the time since - makes a huge difference.

Yes, tilt mattress (we put books under feet of cot head), try Snufflebabe, sips of water etc or at night, Medised works for dd (or Benelyn Childrens Night Cough now that she's over 1) by drying up the drippy nose a bit.

But if he's wheezy, or breathing too fast for too long, and you're worried, just get him checked out again - never hurts to have peace of mind.

i use towels to prop up the mattress a few folded over double works nicely.
