Dr asked me to go in - bother

I have had low eGFR for the last 6 months (should be over 60 mine is 55). Had a suite of blood and urine tests done. Most of the results have come back and are on the nhs app. Creatine elevated but not as much as before, the rest normal. But there are some results still to go.

Just got a text from the surgery to come in next week for an appointment to discuss results.

Bother.

eGFR should be above 90.

If the only deranged results are your eGFR and Creatinine and your Creatinine is better than it was last time then your GP may wish to do a meds review to see if you’re currently taking anything that could be impacting your renal function, or if they need to look at other possible causes.

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 28/11/2023 20:17

Thanks. The GP looked at meds last time so I don’t think it is that.

The nhs app says 60-150 is the satisfactory range for eGFR, which is confusing. I’m only 46, non-smoker, not over weight, don’t drink and I don’t think I have ever had a urine infection so don’t know what could have affected my kidneys. No family history either.

I know I shouldn't have but I went onto my nhs app and saw a new test result.

Some (very incomplete and hazy) knowledge is worse than no knowledge. 😱 step away from Google and wait until I see thr gp on Monday.

Anyone any experience with immunofixation and MGUS? I'm not a worried but this has rattled me a bit.

Anyone any experience with this? Hopeful bump.

Someone on one of my forums has just had MGUS confirmed, as a likely by product of primary hyperPARAthyroidism. They are being monitored every 6 months.

eGFR is definitely meant to be over 90.

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 30/11/2023 20:29

Thank you. I have never heard of MGUS and Google is scary. My appointment next week seems a long way off.

Yes Google is scary! There is another person on the forum who was diagnosed a few years ago but is just monitored x

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 03/12/2023 14:07

My appointment with the gp is tomorrow. I know the likelihood is that everything is fine, I might have a condition but looking past the scary stuff, seems the majority of time to do nothing.

But my head keeps whirling, lots of what ifs and also what if nots (could the MGUS be why my kidneys aren’t functioning as well as they could, but if they aren’t then what is?).

I also worry the GP appointment won’t answer everything and I might have referrals and longer to wait.

I understand everything you’re saying and I’d be feeling the exact same way. The likelihood is you’ll be referred to a urologist who will be able to answer all of your questions, but I do hope your GP is reassuring

SpottyCrumpet · 03/12/2023 19:35

I meant nephrologist!

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 04/12/2023 18:41

Saw the gp, she isn’t that concerned but has referred me to haematology as I’m young (love that 45 is young!). Nothing new but still reassuring that she wasn’t worried at all.

Anything over 60 is fine.

Would reading's on 57, 55, 55 then 61 concern you, taken since March? It is very hard as a lay person to understand the numbers.

Not if I wasn't diabetic or had high blood pressure - that's what exacerbates kidney problems.

You are young and your GP is referring you to a specialist so please ignore Google.

Best of luck, OP.
