Referred to gynae ward after 3 miscarriages

Does anyone know the typical waiting time to get an appointment in the gynae ward after miscarriages? I've had 3 this year, went to my GP 2 weeks ago who ran all blood work and they came back clear so he's referred me to the gynae ward (not sure which hospital) so just waiting for a letter, has anyone had any experience with this? Read lots of threads of people waiting over a year or 2 for a gynae appointment but for different things (not miscarriages) I'm in south wales not sure if different places is different. Thank you

Oh and does anyone know what sort of tests the gynae will do for me? Will they offer medications? I'm ovulating and can get pregnant, I just can't keep the pregnancy past 8 weeks

Sorry you’re going through this OP.

each hospital has different wait times for departments. I would ring whichever hospital you’ve been referred to (you should have a UBRN - unique booking reference number from your referral done by the gp and can log in online to see where you’ve been referred to. Or ring your GP and ask where.
once you know where you’ve been referred to, ring the gynae department or PALs for that hospital and ask about the wait time for recurrent miscarriage clinic and you can ask what’s likely to happen in the clinic investigation wise.

gynae in general has around a 52 week wait in most places but not sure if recurrent miscarriage clinics have a shorter wait (I sincerely hope so)!

hope that helps

Thanks both, I've had a look and we only really have 1 gynae ward in the hospital around me & it says that the waiting time for an appointment is 19 weeks

I waited a year. In that time we were told not to try any more as they would not offer any support or treatment if I were to fall pregnant again.

Iirc, we had:

  1. karyotyping - checking our chromosomes were normal
  2. blood tests throughout my cycle to check my hormone levels
  3. a HSG - a radioactive dye into my uterus, which spread to my ovaries on some sort of x ray/scan looking for physical abnormalities
  4. a vaginal scan of my ovaries
  5. test on DH’s sperm for quality and motility
  6. laparoscopy and hysteroscopy (after the HSG showed an abnormality)
  7. they also found DH had antibodies to his own sperm

@Quisquam was this with the NHS? How long did all this take if you don't mind me asking

It was all on the NHS, except the laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. We had private medical insurance. The abnormality was Asherman’s syndrome, and the consultant got the private medical insurance to cover the surgery.

I think it all took a few months but as the hysteroscopy was to divide the adhesions in my uterus from probably the first D & C, he put a coil in for 3 months to allow healing without adhesions forming again. Obviously there wasn’t going to be any conception in that time!

After that, the consultant recommended IVF. My GP prescribed the drugs on the NHS, and we paid for the IVF treatment privately.
