sore mouth, rashy bum and not eating or sleeping - what can it be?

DD (16 mths) is refusing to drink milk from her bottle or use her dummy and is only eating small amounts of sloppy food. Her tongue seems to have a slight red rash and she is acting as though her mouth is sore. Also not sleeping well (getting upset because she can't use her dummy). Initially thought it was teething, but this seems an extreme reaction. Then thought it might be a post-viral rash (she's had a horrid cold) but now wondering if it might be oral thrush (she also has a pink spotty bottom). Any ideas why this might be? Hoping to see doctor soon, but in the meantime any suggestions would be welcome!

I would guess a sore throat or teething - are her molars coming through?

Sounds like thrush or maybe hand foot and mouth - that causes mouth ulcers....I would go to docs immediately
you have my sympathies x

Thrush - or nasty teething.

Hope she is better soon.

Thanks ladies. She is cutting molars but I had no idea that this would make her go off her bottle and her beloved dummy!

Oh, and she had hand, foot and mouth in the autumn. Can you get it again?

Def sounds like hand foot and mouth to me. My DS had it at around the same age and had the same symptoms. Sucking the dummy hurts coz of the spots in their mouths. Here's a link to the info on the NHS website:

www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/article.aspx?articleId=165

Would take to the docs to confirm but with my son, they didn't prescribe anything and he was fine within a couple of days.

Hope this helps.
