How long after pre-op assessment was surgery?

Hi,

I’ve been told I need surgery on my knee and my consultant told me last week that he would put me on the list which was 3 months long but that he would mark me down as urgent.

I’ve had a letter come through for a pre-op appt in mid December but no surgery date. Tbh I’m impressed to get a pre-op appt date so soon! Just wondering how long others waited after pre-op for surgery and if it has any bearing on when it might be? I’ve looked on the hospital website but not found any information.

Two days for me... ( Gall bladder removal)..But I'd been in for endoscopy for gallstones removed before that.
Other operations I've had .. l was admitted to hospital day before operation and they did the pre assessment then.. but it's all changed now... l think it differs from hospital to hospital and what kind of operation.. if they have cancellations etc..

P.S my daughter opted for a few hospitals and the specialist looked at his computer and got her into a different one to our local the next day.

It's usually no more than 12 weeks after the ore op assssment - otherwise they have to do it again (which no one wants).

Thank you!
I rang the pre-op clinic just to see what their guidelines are and she said surgery is normally within 6 months of the pre-op appt and if I don’t have a surgery date by the time of my appt they’ll automatically give me a second pre-op appt for 6 months time to ensure I’m always in date.
Seems a bit crazy but it’s all happened relatively fast until now so hopefully I’ll know a date before long.

Just an update:

I have a surgery date now for end Feb and my pre-op was changed to end Jan so it was within 8 weeks of surgery.

Is this NHS? If so then I wouldn't bank on anything happening when they say it will.

I had a knee op which was done privately thanks to work providing private health cover.

I met the surgeon who inspected my knee, sent me for same day x-ray and MRI scans and then opened up the appointments screen on their system and said pick the date you want it done. From initial enquiry through to consultation meeting and then operation took less than a week.

The sad part about it is that the surgeon also did NHS but said his private work took priority meaning he offered virtually immediate appointments. He said if it was NHS I’d be waiting for months if not years to get it done.

DD had spinal surgery last year, we were told that pre-ops are only valid for 3 months so if surgery was after that time period they would need fully repeated. She waited 6 weeks - pre-op in early Feb and surgery in late March
