111 or can I go to bed?

I really just wanna go to sleep but thought I'd get opinions first. I'm going to do it in a timeline as it's quicker

4pm - vision suddenly goes funny. Can't read words properly, a 'fuzzy' area of vision in right eye and peripheral vision isn't as good.
4:45 - vision starts to return to normal but sudden wave of dizziness (lasts a couple of mins) and start feeling nauseous
Also have trouble reading but not because of vision - brain doesn't seem to recognise words for a second or two.
5pm - all returns to normal but I start getting a headache

No symptoms now other than headache and feeling very tired.

Would you sleep it off?

Migraine?
has it all resolved now? Can you read ok?

febbabies2023 · 21/11/2023 20:34

@HelloDaisy doesn't feel like a migraine - fine with lights and sound etc more of a 'my head hurts' headache. Yep still got the headache now

Really hard to say. Could be a migraine with aura, could be something more. Not really sure what’s best tbh

febbabies2023 · 21/11/2023 20:37

@Peekingovertheparapet this is my issue - could literally be a headache. Or could die in my sleep who knows (dramatic I know lol)

Sounds exactly like one of my migraines, although the scintillation/aura only lasts about 20-30 minutes. Starts in the middle and then works to the periphery. But if you are not sure, ring 111.

hollydoll27 · 21/11/2023 20:42

I had a very similar situation in the summer and it turned out to be a migraine. I would however recommend attending A&E to be certain it isn't anything more sinister even though it's a total pain.

LeakyPipes · 21/11/2023 20:46

I don't think you should be guessing with symptoms like these that you've not had before. I'd go to A&E. if you're unsure you could ring 111 first. Don't assume it's migraine if you've not been diagnosed with that previously. It could be a stroke or something related.

CandyLeBonBon · 21/11/2023 20:48

Migraines take all sorts of forms. I've suffered on and off since my teens.

  1. I can get aura either no headache

  2. I can have my whole left side go floppy, with a feeling that someone has punched me in the back of the head

  3. I can have a full on aura with headache attack where I can't move without vomiting

I'd be reluctant to suggest anything other than phone 111 tbh because I had number 2 earlier this year and thought I was having a stroke.

I hope you're ok. It is PROBABLY a migraine, but better to be checked.

FindingMeno · 21/11/2023 20:49

If you are worried ring 111.
Fwiw I was never intolerant of light or sound with my migraines.

JNW11 · 21/11/2023 21:00

This is how my migraines started which I ended up in a&e in full blown panic mode because I couldn't see and thought I was going blind and it was a migraine so
If the symptoms are new to
You I'd certainly get checked.
Hope you're ok?

AlltheJays23 · 21/11/2023 21:00

I had something similar to you. Turned out to be occular migraines. I'd go 111 and then if they okay you I would book an eye test to rule occular migraines out. I only say this because if floaters in vision and loss of vision/fuzziness. I had exact same symptoms. Haven't had then again since I had a thorough eye check and new prescription of glasses xx

Cornettoninja · 21/11/2023 21:02

If this has never happened to you before and you have no diagnosis that would explain it you need to go to A&E.

a telephone consultation is beyond pointless and doesn’t rule out anything, you need proper clinical evaluation with the testing equipment available in a hospital.

it sucks and no one really wants to go there but those are some dicey neurological symptoms to be gambling on ‘just being ok’.

jaychops · 21/11/2023 21:03

It could be a TIA... most probably not but best to get checked. How old are you? Any history of blood clots?

KnickerlessParsons · 21/11/2023 22:08

A friend of mine had something similar earlier this year. Thought it was a migraine and tried to sleep it off. She lost vision in one of her eyes permanently. I forget what it was but something to do with the optic nerve which could have been treated if she'd gone hospital within
a few hours of it coming on.

Possibly acute ( or “closed angle”) glaucoma.

Foxymoxy68 · 21/11/2023 22:41

Sounds like a migraine with aura. I've had a few of them. Quite scary. Probably nothing to worry about but worth getting checked out nonetheless.

KnickerlessParsons · 21/11/2023 23:46

I don't think so. They think perhaps something to do with the carotid artery but are still doing tests.

MrsBungle · 21/11/2023 23:50

You should probably phone 111. It sounds like the opthalmic migraines I get.

KnottyKnitting · 21/11/2023 23:56

I have had three episodes like this in my life- strange wobbly crescent goes over my vision ( not like when you have looked at t a light for too long. This then drifts off and out of sight - happens for about 20 mins and then I am left with this sort of dizzy fatigue which wipes me out for a few hours. Don't really get a headache.

I knew what it was the first time
It happened because it was exactly as my Ddad described his. Both my DDs and my D sis get them too. My DDad has actually had a TIA bit said that was totally different.

However I agree with others who say you should seek advice.

LulooLemon · 22/11/2023 00:06

How are you OP?

febbabies2023 · 22/11/2023 02:38

Sorry for the late replies!

All of the symptoms I have and a Google of nhs pointed towards a retinal migraine (in fact I had every symptom of that)

I agree that I probably should have been seen, but I also have 2 young children who I would have had no childcare for (silly I guess if I was having a stroke)

I'm still feeling quite tired, but my head is hurting less than before

And I'm 29 for poster who asked - no history of blood clots, no issues with health at all really

1pm and still have this headache. How long should I expect this to last?

OP posts:
KnickerlessParsons · 22/11/2023 22:15

Why don't you just call 111 and get some advice from actual medical people?

Jeannie88 · 22/11/2023 22:22
