Has anyone elses dc had chicken pox that started out looking like flea bites?

DS1 (age 4) woke up this morning with couple dozen itchy pink/red spots on his face and all over his body including arms and legs.

I thought is was chicken pox but have booked a dr's appt for this afternoon as now I'm not sure.

Several more spots seem to have appeared since this morning but they are not developing any fluid or looking blistery at all.

What do you think?

TIA

yes, GP thought dd had flea bites

I diagnosed (over the phone ) CP

it was: CP!

I would tell the receptionist you suspect chicken pox when you go for your appointment as they may ask you to wait in a different room.

Have you got a pic so we can look at the spots?

AnnieAreYouOkAreYouOkAnnie · 12/03/2008 13:43

My two have just had CP and the spots didn't look anything like I expected, like yours, no fluid or blisteriness, hence a visit to the GP. It probably is CP, but good to see the GP just in case.

Good luck if it is, scratch city here you come.

shrinkingsagpuss · 12/03/2008 13:45

oh yes!! I sent DS to nursery telling them he had a few midgy bites. 2 hours later they rang me to collect him, and he was convered - freaky

shrinkingsagpuss · 12/03/2008 13:45

covered.

meemar · 12/03/2008 13:46

Thanks - DH's first reaction was that it was flea bites, but I can't imagine where he would have got them from!

Nab - have told surgery and the receptionist has already said we will wait in a side room. Pics are too much hassle as DS1 is the worst patient in the world and wails everytime I lift his top up to have a look (not with pain, just drama ).

I may even cancel the appointment if it starts to look like it's definitely CP. No point wasting our, or their time.

When my DD had CP, I thought it was mosquito bites as we were on holiday when they came out - like your LOs they weren't blisters or fluid. Best to get it checked out.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 12/03/2008 13:48

TBH if it is CP there isn't anything the GP can do.

meemar · 12/03/2008 13:48

hmm, maybe I will keep the appointment then, just to be sure

x posts, nab! That's what I thought too. It's at 4.00 so I'll see how it goes in the next hour.

How did you get on?

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 12/03/2008 20:31

bump

meemar · 13/03/2008 09:41

Thanks for asking nab

Well, we kept the appointment, by the time we went one of the spots on his foot had reacted somehow and made his foot swell up.

Dr wasn't sure what the spots were but didn't rule out CP. She made another appt for Friday morning, so we'll see.

He's obviously still off school today but strangely some of the spots started to fade this morning!

However, just checked him 10 mins ago and a couple have tiny pinprick heads on them..

I have no idea what's going on but, he is generally feeling fine and I'll keep you all posted !

boo!!

so some of them have heads? just have to see how the day goes, it seems that others havehad rather elusive symptoms too.

meemar · 13/03/2008 10:01

one or two have, but really small - I can't tell if I'm seeing things or not!

I'll show you later x

Have you googled to get a pic of chicken pox to compare?

OrmIrian · 13/03/2008 13:12

Yep. DD is very susceptible to insect bites so when she got a load more I attacked the cat with frontline( twice in a month), sprayed the house with vile chemicals, hoovered everything several times a day. But it was chicken pox At least I had a clean house.

meemar · 13/03/2008 13:21

I have looked at pics of CP and it really looks nothing like it now. The spots are now fading. I think it may have been an allergic reaction to something, though I've no idea what.

DS1 is not at all unwell, he is currently twirling round the living room with a scarf doing PE and calling me Miss Barnes (his teachers name)

Will take him to tomorrows Dr's appt and if she says it's nothing contagious I'll send him back to school

update

The spots have all faded and DH took DS1 back to dr's this morning. She said it could have been an extremely mild bout of chicken pox which is now over , or another unknown viral rash.

Either way, she said he is fine, so he is back at school much to his (and my ) delight!
