What’s happened to under my arms (photos included)?

under my arms have got very sore and red in a weird oval shape - how should I treat this? I’ve been putting E45 on them today. What’s wrong with them?

You need to think back to what you've done and used to cause this. You must have done something differently and that will be the culprit.

Thanks for your ideas - I can't think of anything I've changed recently but am wondering could it be shaving too often?

Perhaps shaving irritated skin and then applying deodorant. Did you notice stinging? Looks similar to a chemical burn. It would be strange to get a fungal infection on both sides but not impossible. I would do as others say – don’t shave or use deodorant and apply something like daktarin for a few days

It always makes me laugh how confidently people diagnose skin complaints on Mumsnet. Red and irritated skin can be caused by any number of things. Yeah, it MIGHT be a fungal infection but it could equally just be irritation caused by deodorant, shaving, chafing, sweat or all sorts of other things.

Mine were like that for years until i changed my deodorant to 100% alcohol free.

Just try to go without until the rash clears up.

@Siha345

Our GP does a lot of phone appointments.

If they need a photo they text you a secure link to upload it.

Do you use an IPL machine??

Mine triggered eczema in the underarm area. Never did stop the hair growing either, bloody thing.

ghostyslovesheets · 20/11/2023 19:31

I suddenly became allergic to deodorant as I hit peri menopause - even the sensitive stuff left my armpits like this!

I can only use one brand of fancy organic stuff now which is expensive but worth it

PauliesWalnuts · 20/11/2023 19:39

Do you have PCOS? Could be acanthosis nigricans if so.

Mushroo · 20/11/2023 19:41

Weirdly I’ve had the exact same thing the last couple of weeks.

I ditched deodorant for a week (less than ideal) and been applying sudocrem and it seems a lot better.

No idea what triggered it.

Birdcar · 20/11/2023 19:42

I had exactly that. I'm not sure what it was (possibly a yeast infection) but Daktarin cream cleared it up fairly quickly.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 20/11/2023 19:58

I am peri and have this as well. I mainly wfh so have cut out deodorant on those days and it does seem to have improved it a bit.

anon2134 · 20/11/2023 20:19

That's a fungal infection.

Caneston will clear it up

EvilElsa · 20/11/2023 20:20

I had this from Dove deodorant!!! It makes my underarms so sore, they looked exactly like this. Ditched it for Sanex and never had a problem since.

LilyMumsnet · 20/11/2023 20:24

We're just moving this over to the health topic. Flowers

Try an anti fungal cream such as Daktacourt or Canestan. Monitor what happens over a week.
