ds (11 at the end of Jan) has been sick or not quite well for weeks now

It started in the middle of Jan when he came down with a stomach bug, a couple of weeks later he had an ear infection, which was treated (apparently successfully) with antibiotics but then reappeared a week later (more antibiotics), then last week he succumbed to a real stinker of a cold. This week, although the cold seems to have subsided, he's still really tired - crawling up the stairs to bed and asleep by 8

He's normally incredibly energetic and very active - he's a competitive swimmer so normally trains several times a week, but he's hardly made it to any training sessions in the last 6 weeks and is finding that very frustrating

Our GP wondered if he might be anaemic, but he's had a blood test which came back normal

So, any ideas as to how long this might go on for and how can I boost his energy levels/immune system in the meantime?

Roll on the spring and plenty of sunshine!!

In the meantime, plenty of good food, fruit and veg, cut down on sugar and refined/processed foods. Of course you may be doing this already.

Not a believer in the wonders of daily pro/pre biotics but a live natural yoghurt after a course of antibiotics is a good thing IMO.
As for food, maybe snacks of raw veg(e.g.carrot sticks) and hummous, nuts and dried fruits to help boost his intake of vitamins/minerals.

If he has cereal in the morning, most health food shops sell a 'sprinkle' mix that has dried fruit, seeds etc. in it.

Honestly not weaving lentils as I type.
Just have a veggie family member who doesn't like cheese, eggs, mushrooms, soy, quorn.....

zinc and vitamin C - so kiwi fruit, oranges and nuts good sources.

Virus's (sorry pedants) can linger for weeks even a couple of months I've heard. And you m,ay be on the way out. But personally I would be keeping close contact with the gp and getting weekly/fortnightly updates.

Iron sprung t mind but that's been checked. Still there is an underlying problem that needs to be sorted. I'd be back at gps asking for help.

In the meantime, of course leafy greens and fruit are all good. Possibly supplements.

I'm sure it'll be fine but you're right to keep on top of it until he is back to his usual self
