Mirena Coil

Had the coil after the birth of DS (now 4). I loved it but DH could sometimes feel it during sex and said it was really uncomfortable at times. Did anyone else have this problem?

Had it removed to conceive DD (18 months) and keep debating whether or not to try again. DH is reluctant. Tried the pill which didn't agree with me and am so over condoms... Too much information???

Your experiences would be really welcome.

I didn't have a prob with it, perhaps the threads were to long?

Did get it checked twice - GP said it can sometimes happen but gave no further advice. I must confess, I never checked the threads myself.

How about an implant?

abigaillockhart · 11/03/2008 22:51

I don't know much about them TBH. Is it the same hormones as the Pill? Was on Microgynon after DD and had terrible skin, moods and more.

Will do some research. Thanks

It is the same hormone as is in Mirena, so you shouldn't have a problem tolerating it. There is no oestrogen in it, so hopefully no problems similar to microgynon.

They are fitted under the skin in your upper arm (bingo wing area) with a small amount of local anaesthetic. They last for 3 years (or can be taken out sooner if you want) and the contraceptive effect is immediately reversed as soon as it is removed.

I've fitted loads of these and have found that women have fewer problems with them than Mirena.

Your GP or FPC should be able to give you more advice.

Thanks so much Emma. Am due a smear test so will chat about it when I go in. I really wouldn't have looked at an implant so 'ta very much!!'

What is the implant called?
I was also considering a mirena but just can't seem to book myself an appointment to have something sharp inserted beyond my cervix so soon after labour (am 8 weeks postpartum). Ouch!
Is the level of hormone in the implant similarly low (as in mirena).
i also do not fair well with hormonal C'ceptives.
Thanks.

Sorry for the delay- didn't notice the last post.

The implant is called implanon- Has similar hormone to mirena in v low dose. All FPCs and some GPs can fit it.
