My son and his friend have had scabies since April 23. I have used about 30 + tubes of Permetherin between them. It didn’t work and they still have it badly. They are infested all over their bodies, even the sloes of their feet. The issue is, the scabies mite has now become resistant to the Permetherin. We have been to see a dermatologist twice (privately). They have now been prescribed Ivermectin as a last resort. The side affects can be horrendous and I’m very worried. His GP who he saw first, was next to useless, said use Derbac M - I’ve found out there’s none in the country. This is a real worry. Anyone else suffering the same with this? The poor boys are beside themselves with this condition. Btw, we’re pretty sure they got it from the plane on holiday. Don’t wear shorts on a plane. Would be very interested if anyone out there has ideas

I remember when I had scabies as a child. DM was given advice to scrub everything and hot wash bedding. She was hoovering and wiping down skirting boards every day, hot washing bedding, towels and pj’s each day -no tumble dryers in many houses in those days!
Are they hot washing bedding & is the whole family being treated?

wineoohh · 06/12/2023 18:20

@ivermec did the invermectin work? It didn't for us, so we are not sure what to do next...

Tinydancer1234 · 18/09/2024 05:06

Did you manage to get rid of it in the end? If so what worked?

Tinydancer1234 · 25/10/2024 21:34

Did you get rid of this in the end? Would so like to know as been suffering the same. Xx

fumanchu · 27/10/2024 22:39

My ds had this, he used flowers of sulphur mixed with e45. Seemed to work.

Tinydancer1234 · 29/10/2024 09:06

Thank you for this. I’ve used sulfur cream and sulfur soap with no luck. I’m not sure what concentration he may have used it but the regular 10% didn’t work for us :( Do you know if anything else was used? Desperate mum wanting this cured . X

fumanchu · 29/10/2024 12:34

Not sure, he just bought sulphur, think it was marketed for garden use(!) and mixed it with E45. It stank his room out for months.....

Floit · 29/10/2024 15:56

We gave up with the cream too and used sheep Ivermectin spot on for ourselves and it worked!

Have they actually had a skin scrape and had scabies properly confirmed?

JayEffSee · 29/10/2024 16:02

Also Derbac M appears to be available from multiple online chemists and on eBay, so just buy it online!

Oaksilver · 29/10/2024 16:21

Yes get Derbac M online. It works really well. You can see them improve even after one application.

Oblomov24 · 29/10/2024 16:28

Goodness. This is bad. Reading with interest.

Tinydancer1234 · 30/10/2024 13:16

Unfortunately skin scrapes aren’t much use unless you have it extremely bad. If you have it mild to moderate then you only have around 15 mites on you at a given time which is very difficult to get one on a skin scrape. Some people also don’t have visible burrows or are missed. It’s one of the most misdiagnosed skin issues and it’s classed as a neglected tropical disease. Some people are lucky and can get rid of it with a couple of doses of the cream others aren’t so fortunate like myself. I also believe it’s to do with your immune system as on the extreme end when people get crusted scabies they are immunocompromised and the mites reproduce at a higher rate.

Oblomov24 · 03/11/2024 13:00

Dh is due to have a skin scrape this week, as recommended by hospital consultant. He's tried loads of creams from the GP. Looking at his skin now makes me so sad. Sad

Oblomov24 · 21/11/2024 20:50

I'm now itchy. My gp refused to issue Ivermectin.

Tinydancer1234 · 06/12/2024 22:24

Go to a dermatologist who specialises in scabies and get them to prescribe ivermectin. If it’s really bad go to A&E and tell them they are itching like crazy and that you have tried permethrin & it doesn’t work.

Also try Eurex cream to help with the itching it helps. It also helps to kill scabies but it’s not the drug of choice as it’s much less effective however just use it for the itch in the mean time.

Also make sure you change bedding everyday . I wash in 90 degrees not 60 and also put clothes and bedding in the tumble dryer. You do have to select your clothes that won’t shrink. Cover sofas after hoovering with a sheet and then wash that everyday also. I also wear nitrile gloves when putting cream on my kids so I’m not transferring mites. You do have to be meticulous with cleaning.

We had a terrible time with my dd. She was at
uni and all her friends got it too. I brought her home from uni in the holidays and washed all her clothes bedding and treated her about five times as well as me and dh but not before going to the gp with her where she had to have blood tests including HIV because they thought she might me immune compromised. She wasn’t; it’s just a real bitch to get rid of and requires huge amounts of energy and time to get rid of it which we did eventually but not before she became really depressed with it.

Oblomov24 · 17/01/2025 17:58

No resolution here.

BabyCatMama · 17/01/2025 18:15

It might be a misdiagnosis and be a bacterial infection

Snoopypie · 11/02/2026 20:04

@lissie123
Hi, I’m so depressed after practically 3 months into my scabies journey.
How long did it take your household to clear it and any top tips?
Going to see a new dermo in a few weeks.

lissie123 · 12/02/2026 07:58

@Snoopypie it was very hard. Bagging all clothes and bedding. Be ruthless. Wash the fuck out of everything and tumble dry everything at high temps. Throw items away if needs be. Repeat treatments ruthlessly.
Visit the GP for suggestions and support. Repeat and repeat and keep going. It will go.

Snoopypie · 12/02/2026 20:40

@lissie123How long did it take you guys?
No tumble dryer as I’m a uk lady living in QLD where I’ve never needed a dryer due to weather.
Any advice on treatment?
Changing beds on treatment day each week , not daily.
sorry for questions, I’ve had some do do happen in life , but at least when it did I could go out , see my friends, feel safe in bed and hug my dog- can’t really do this now - I’m so low and desperate.
