Hey everyone

Feeling super super sorry for myself as I'm back in hospital with high fever and vomiting 😭 tell me I'll get better because I've lost hope that I will ever get better

That's how I was admitted a couple of years ago. Pain, vomiting, fever. I was put on IV antibiotics and morphine (thank god for morphine). Admitted Sunday morning, by Wednesday infection still hadn't improved so I was taken into surgery and out came the gallbladder.

Push for them to whip it out, horrible little organ full of stones and pain. Once it was gone recovery was quick and no problems since.

Samiibaby · 15/11/2023 06:18

I had it removed on Friday however since the surgery I've been in and out of hospital with a very high fever and vomiting
The pain post surgery is worse than the actual attacks!
Currently in rapid assessment unit waiting for some iv antibiotics

Oh No! Gallbladder pain is so horrific. I feel for you. Why are they so apprehensive to take it out in the UK? I had a scan on the Monday showing gallstones it was out two weeks later immediately after a second attack. I live in a country that has an NHS, to leave you suffer is just inhumane.

Weesiewoo · 15/11/2023 06:21

Whoops cross post. Sorry you are feeling so unwell! Sending healing vibes ❤️

Samiibaby · 15/11/2023 06:37

Awww thank you my lovely! I'm miserable atm I coped better BEFORE I had my gallbladder removed!
Safe to say my recovery has not been easy

Sorry to hear you're suffering, this worries me a bit because I would like my gall bladder out if a scan in a couple of weeks shows that I have stones, I thought it solved the problem?

Samiibaby · 15/11/2023 06:45

Hi I thought it would have solved the problem too! I thought I would be able to eat what I like and recovery would be a breeze but since having it out I've suffered more than when I had gallstones!

I can sympathise OP.

I was in hospital for 2 weeks before they took my gallbladder out (NBM)
They finally took it out, I went home and then was back in with infection. That was sorted then came the night sweats, vomiting, dizziness. It was horrible.

Worth it in the end though!

Hugs and flowers 💐

Hey I was in hospital back in April for 2 weeks with pancreatitis and a blocked bile duct
Had a ERCP to remove the stone and then I was fine
I had the surgery on Friday and 48 hours later developed a fever of 39.5! Paracetamol keeping it down but I've thrown up that many times that my incisions hurt and moving hurts like hell
Had to call an ambulance this morning as I fainted from the fever and then the vomiting started
According to my husband I was delirious too

You poor thing OP Flowers. I was very similar Wishing you well for your recovery.

Samiibaby · 15/11/2023 07:54

Thank you @Roselilly36 - did you have the same symptoms as me?

OP posts:
Roselilly36 · 15/11/2023 08:53

@Samiibaby Yes, there must have been a gallstone stuck in bile duct during surgery, I was the last patient taken into surgery that day. I was fine for a few days, just usual pain as you expect after surgery. Then, the pain started, saw GP said I felt like I had a gallstone to be told that never happens, and I had just been overdoing things etc. A few started being really sick, my wee went the colour of very dark tea. My late MIL was really concerned and called GP out, he examined me and called an ambulance. Scan/blood tests could tell the bile duct was obstructed but could see the stone on the scan and swollen from surgery etc. Unfortunately for me it was Easter weekend so no surgeon available to send down camera to retrieve the stone, so I had to stay in until the Tues, I was lucky and the stone passed naturally on the Good Friday been fine ever since, only certain very high fat foods cause me problems now. But no pain, gallstones pain is terrible. I hope you are better soon, my gallstones were the size of tiny seeds, so possibly easy to miss. Good luck.

Samiibaby · 15/11/2023 09:52

@Roselilly36 omg! I'm so sorry to hear that! You poor poor thing :( unfortunately for me I had a bile leak during my surgery. The doctor suspects an infection is brewing so I'm either going to be kept in hospital or allowed to go home. I went home with antibiotics on Monday night and I just came back into hospital early this morning
Every single motion is painful at the moment and the pain spreads to underneath my ribcage xx

@Samiibaby - hope you're on the mend soon. This sounds awful.

And it's concerning for me because I'm on the list for a gallbladder op. I'm beginning to realise it's not always straightforward.

How does a stone pass, where does it go?

Rarewaxwing · 16/11/2023 08:28

@Roselilly36 - it's naturally expelled by the body. There are only two ways of expelling and it's not via wee! The hospital doctor thought that had happened to me too. He said expelling kidney stones is painful (because they come out with your wee), but people don't usually notice expelling a gallstone.

Roselilly36 · 16/11/2023 09:01

@bellac11 @Rarewaxwing No idea, but it obviously worked its way out some how, I was in extreme pain, on the Good Friday evening, then no further episodes thank goodness.

Samiibaby · 16/11/2023 23:59

Hello everyone I just wanted to update you all on my condition
So unfortunately I got rushed into emergency surgery this evening as my CT scan showed I had an infection so large it was spreading to my vital organs! I was literally hours away from death but thank god I'm ok now. Had couple of drains put in and my fever is finally responding to paracetamol/ibuprofen. I actually feel more human than I have felt in days
It'll still be a long recovery process but I'm glad I'm on the mend

Rarewaxwing · 17/11/2023 00:39

@Samiibaby - that sounds terrifying! I'm glad you're on the right meds and starting to feel better now. 💐

Samiibaby · 17/11/2023 00:44

Oh it was @Rarewaxwing prior to emergency surgery I was in and out of consciousness and I had no energy to even say hello to my husband! My breathing was slow and shallow and my husband was telling me that I was just staring at him in the eyes but not responding to anything he was saying. Il never forget the look on the surgeons face when he came to tell me I'll be having emergency surgery within the next 30 minutes he was white as a sheet! Honestly thank god for our NHS I shudder at the thought of this happening in a place where you pay for healthcare

Sounds terrifying OP, thank goodness you are on the road to recovery now. Wishing you all the very best for the future.

Rarewaxwing · 17/11/2023 12:29

Thank goodness you had surgery and treatment in time, OP. And yes, we are so lucky to have the NHS! I hope you start to feel better soon, although I imagine it will take time.
