Anyone know a Candida cure?

Justwrong68 · 13/11/2023 22:53

I have chronic vaginal thrush, itchy anus, shallow breathing, burning chest and throat, blocked ears, reflux and IBS. I've had blood tests, a swab and a smear but am none the wiser.
I think it's either bodily Candida or overproduction of cortisol.
Does anyone recognise these symptoms?

Can I ask what leads you to suspect that all these symptoms are caused by one thing?

Pigeonqueen · 13/11/2023 23:04

I have Addisons disease and chronic Candida - and other things. If you suspect you have issues with cortisol you will need to ask your Gp to do an early morning cortisol blood test - too high is cushings, too little is adrenal insufficiency/ Addisons. I am under several specialists for the invasive Candida. Initially I was on 50mg Fluconazole for 6 months daily. As a long term measure I now take 150mg Fluconazole once a month, use Daktarin oral gel nightly, corsodyl mouth wash every morning and I use a pre filled applicator of canestan internal 10% cream every two weeks vaginally. I also take Biokault probiotics daily. I suspect a lot of mine is because I take daily long term antibiotics for bladder issues related to lupus.

I think it's a v strict anti Candida diet. So no sugar, vinegar, cheese, mushrooms, bread etc.

Best to see a naturopath really to get an overall diagnosis and treatment.

MaryJanesonabreak · 13/11/2023 23:12

I used to have terrible thrush for years, and a locum gp advised me to do the Canesten treatment on the last day of my period for three months running and it totally worked.
I did the Candida diet and it had little effect, but its always worth a try.

Or even a real doctor - push if you aren't getting anywhere.

‘Real doctors ‘are worse than useless in my experience. If you can even get to see one face to face.

Thanks for that information. I'm so sorry you're suffering like this

If you think there is a cortisol issue you need a doctor, not a special diet or a naturopath

I did for a few weeks then reintroduced those foods and had a flare up. So there must be something in that diet

@Cookerhood
I've had tests through the gp. There are certain illnesses (usually women's) that require detective work. The mono thinking by gps often means the patient knows more than they do before you get to the surgery. I've been told a few times that it's reflux and even has a barium swallow to look for an obstruction!

Have you had an early morning cortisol test?

Have you had an early morning cortisol test?

No, I might request that. But leaning more towards Candida now I think

What were the results of the swabs? Have you been treated with anti fungals?

Pigeonqueen · 14/11/2023 16:23

Unless you have some autoimmune issue (like me) it’s very unlikely to be invasive Candida. There’s a lot of (untrue) stuff about it online and lots of anti Candida diets etc but the truth is true invasive Candida is extremely rare. This doesn’t mean you don’t have thrush - you should try a course of Fluconazole (you can buy the 150mg tablet over the counter) and use the pessaries and creams at the same time. If it’s still there a month later then you can repeat it and if still an issue then you should ask your doctor for further tests.

As someone with diagnosed long term invasive Candida I can tell you from my experience cutting out sugar etc makes absolutely no difference whatsoever. Been there, done that. It might make a difference to milder cases but with full blown full body Candida you could avoid sugar for months and it makes no difference; you need the heavy duty anti fungal drugs if you have it.

OP did you manage to kick the thrush? Mine is recurring and I’m really looking for answers.
