Tingling toes in one feet / worried

Olivia37 · 13/11/2023 17:10

The last few weeks, my second, third and possibly fourth toes feel weird when I move them. It’s not always there, only if I stand on hard cold surface or come back from walk, or run in Gym etc. and only happens if I put a bit more weight on that feet, on flat surface and lift my toes. It’s feels like mild electric shocks and stem from third toe and radiates to the ones next to it (second and fourth). Normally I wouldn’t care about it but my mom has MS and also I had a few days of pins and needles around both of my feet during my last two periods. So all this info combined, now I am extremely worried and depressed. Waiting to be tested but I did have low iron levels in my last blood tests.

Low iron can also impact B12 and low B12 causes these sort of symptoms. I was convinced I had MS as my symptoms were so severe but it was just B12, my level wasn’t even that low but uk normal range is set a lot lower than in other countries. Try not to panic too much, hopefully your results will show an easily treatable reason.

There are lots of things that could be causing this; most of them pretty harmless and easily resolved. Please get a GP appointment to investigate it xx

apart from vitamins, could just be your sciatic nerve, have you tried stretching? The ones on your back for sciatic nerve, see if you are tense on one side.

Thanks for sharing your experience and glad it’s in the past now. Hope you don’t mind me asking, what were your symptoms? @NotStartedChristmasShoppingYet

@Olivia37 how are you? Did you get to the bottom of your symptoms!? I am experiencing similar and it's driving me mad!

cunoyerjudowel · 08/12/2024 21:37

Sounds a bit like chilblaines / Reynards - are they itchy

Olivia37 · 08/12/2024 21:40

@Lollyl88 still no clue. I had brain MRI just to rule out other things and thankfully it was clear. But strange sensation is still unsettling. Symptoms resemble tarsal tunnel syndrome but I have no idea what it really is. Scared to go to doctors, it was enough stress to do brain MRI. What are your symptoms like?

I'd wonder if it was Raynaud's syndrome. I have it in my hands and my mum has it too. It's really unpleasant. I can understand your worry given your mum's MS.

Lollyl88 · 08/12/2024 21:48

@Olivia37 Great that your brain scan was clear! That's fantastic news. I have a neurology appointment next week but it's been ages coming. I just keep getting tingling in my 4th and 5th fingers. I've also got pain between my shoulder blades. But the last couple of weeks I've noticed my feet getting pins and needles and this evening I just have the feeling of them being cold, but they're not. I have reynauds but all quite a different sensation. Getting very stressed about getting to the bottom of it!

FamilyStrifeIsHard2Bear · 08/12/2024 21:49

Possibly silly question but do you have cold feet / extremities? Do your toes go a bit red around the points where you feel tingling?
I get chilblains and this sounds similar to the beginning of symptoms I can get with them.
You could try wearing insulated socks (I now wear them 24x7 through the winter) to see if this might help?
Apologies if this doesn't sound right or isn't relevant though

CulturalNomad · 08/12/2024 21:58

In addition to the "pins and needles" sensation does it ever feel like you're stepping on a marble when you put pressure on that foot?

After years of running and walking I've developed a Morton's Neuroma. You can look it up but this is the gist of it:

"Morton’s neuroma is an inflammation of nerve tissue in the foot, usually between the third and fourth toes. It can cause shooting or burning pain, numbness, and tingling. Medical treatments, exercises, and home remedies may help."

Olivia37 · 08/12/2024 22:41

@Lollyl88 thank you. I do feel your pain and honestly it’s not worth worrying. Worrying takes away from our life. I only got worried because of mom’s MS. Otherwise I couldn’t care less about my foot symptoms to be honest. What you are describing sounds like Morton Neuroma but could be any other minor matter. Hope your GP will get to the bottom of it and Well done you for following it up with doctors. But just so you don’t worry, wear and tear on foot seems to be very common. High heels, tight shoes, Low iron, heavy periods, hormonal fluctuations, cold weather and so many other things could all play a role in our symptoms. Hoping for the best for you.

I had weird tingly pins & needles symptoms and was also concerned about a family of MS but it turned out I had a vitamin D deficiency - my GP did me a bloody test to check it and now I regularly take a supplement.

Wurlywurly · 10/12/2024 08:54

I didn't realise pins and needles can be a symptom of low vit D. I've never seen this listed as a symptom anywhere. I've just had vit D come back as 51 and the health range is something like 50 to 250 so pretty low. I've had pins and needles on and off for years, been tested for loads of other things, but never made this connection.

Needmoresleep89 · 29/01/2026 17:34

@Lollyl88 did you ever get to the bottom of this? I have similar symptoms

Lollyl88 · 29/01/2026 18:42

@Needmoresleep89 Hi. Yes I did. Scans all came back normal. So alongside some other symptoms it turned out to be perimenopause at the age of 38. On HRT after a battle with my doctor and all resolved!!
