It doesn't look as bad on the photo but for the past couple of months I'm suffering with spots all round my mouth. I haven't changed contraception I have had a coil for over 2 years. Have cut completely down on sugar and the spots only appear round my mouth. Have tried an acne cream, sudocrem, moisturiser. Anyone else suffered with this? They are mostly white heads and new ones appear wvery week

They just look like zits to me. Have you recently cut out sugar as any changes to diet can result in a couple of weeks of spots ime.

Spots round the mouth are often hormonal.

Sudocrem on your face isn't a great plan as it seems to get into pores and stay there, like a little zinc nugget. As I learned when some fucker on here suggested using sudocrem as a primer and mugging here believed them.

Muggins

Yep they’re “just” spots/acne. Hormonal spots are especially likely to appear around the mouth as a pp said.

Best over the counter options are Cerave or Cetaphil face wash and Acnecide cream every evening. Some people find supplements like DIM or Inositol help. Definitely don’t use Sudocrem.

If it carries on my next step would be to ask GP for Epiduo and consider removing the coil (assuming you have a hormonal coil) and trying Dianette instead.

Could it be perioral dermatitis? Check out some photos online.

If you think it is, there are a few helpful threads on Mumsnet. I solved mine by changing my toothpaste bizarrely.

Jesswebster01 · 12/11/2023 12:33

I did think this. I've had the coil for over two years and the doctors did say it wouldn't start giving me spots now after so long. I use different toothpastes anyway so don't think it is that. I will try and get an appoitment at the doctors wish me luck

If the doc doesn't prescribe anything, try dermol. You can buy it over the counter in the pharmacy and it is a nice, light cream. It's fine to use as a general moisturiser/soothing cream and is antimicrobial so can help clear up minor complaints. The huge benefit of it is that it won't do any harm! I used it to help clear perioral dermatitis and to sort out topical steroid withdrawal, and to fix a fungal infection on my foot. It's a wonder cream as far as I'm concerned!
