Laxatives have damaged my stomach? Help :(

Last Thursday I took 2 DulcoEase and 2 CenLax as prescribed, for the first ever time, due to chronic constipation that I probably should have seen my GP about a long time ago.

I managed to have a bowel movement after taking them (3 days later mind!) but the medication has completely buggered up my digestive system.

I have constant stomach ache that varies in intensity but is always there and a serious amount of gas (both ends) which is adding to the stomach pain. Ive also had acid reflux and a bad taste in my mouth.

It isn't getting any better, surely this isn't normal from one dose of mild laxatives for all of this time? I'm beginning to think something is seriously wrong.

I didn't have any of this with my 'normal' constipation and seriously regret taking them.

Can anybody advise?

You said this was a long term problem due to a drug. What have you tried dietary wise to manage it?
I've seen threads about constipation where people come on and say two oranges gives me diarrhoea. That's ok for people who don't have a serious chronic problem. You need to organise your diet around this.
I used to take lactulose every day and it worked but the gas....

I eventually found a way to manage it with diet. I eat a big bowl of oats (not cooked) and seeds topped with 6 prunes for breakfast. Also a glass of prune juice. Disgusting but better than laxatives. Tons of fruit and veg and a lit of water. This works most of the time but not always.

I haven't done enough to manage it through diet, I'll be honest. I could definitely make improvements and try new things. I've made a note of what works for you and I'm going to give it a go when needed once the laxatives have all left my system. Thank you :)
