Low level tooth / gum ache - it’s only going to get worse isn’t it?

For the last 2 weeks I have had a sensitive molar and the gap next to it (where I had a molar removed over 25 yrs ago) is sensitive too.

I have been using sensodyne toothpaste for the last week. I spit but don’t rinse. I use it twice a day to brush my teeth, and at lunchtime I have been rubbing a small blob of it on the tooth and the gap, and not rinsing.

I lost confidence in my dentist at my last visit. She was very rough, she filled a tooth but did not fill the one I thought she was going to fill (I didn’t know until the numbing had worn off), she burned my lip with an instrument she was using.

I know I need to see the dentist about this ache but I don’t know if I should start afresh at another practice or try another dentist at the one I have been to for the last 18 years. It’s only a small practice though and there are 4 dentists there.

If I leave it I suspect it’s just going to get worse. I think the existing filling is old and failing.

Have you tried using a mouthwash a couple of times a day for a few days, if it's a slight infection that might clear it. Or Bonjela.

If that doesn't help go back to the dentist, if it's a practice there may be a different dentist you could see there. Otherwise you might have to go private.

Thank you - I’ll try some mouthwash too.

I’m already a private patient. unfortunately there are no NHS dentists taking new patients in my area and this has been the case for many years unfortunately. I think it’s scandalous, but that’s another story!

Corsodyl mouthwash might help.

You're only supposed to use it for two weeks.
