DH Horrible Cough

My poor DH has had the most horrendous cough for weeks and weeks now. In fact he's had it on and off for months. He's been to the GP three times and is told it is acid reflux and to stop drinking coffee but it doesnt seem to be helping at all. In fact this last bout of it is worse than ever - he is nearly turning himself inside out with it. There's no blood and a little phlem but nothing much just a constant dry hacking cough. He WFH and has online video meetings and is constantly having do dive out and cough til he's almost sick. I feel so sorry for him but have tries everything. He is getting through a tonne of cough sweets which help a little but not for long and I dread to think what they are doing to his teeth.
I dunno, he's tried honey and all sorts. He's even tried sleeping in the spare room in case its the mattress or pillows.
Anyone got any ideas how to help the poor guy?
He has no other symptoms of acid reflux btw.

Dh has had the exact same thing. Started with a week long illness (fever cold symptoms) about 8 weeks ago. I suspected a chest infection but gp says it's just viral and to rest. He is getting better now. The only thing that helped short term was chesty cough medicine to give him a break and v high strength vitamin d.

Why is the doctor sure it's acid reflux if he has no other symptoms? When I had acid reflux I had heartburn, felt like I was going to vomit and a horrible acid taste in my mouth, but no coughing.

I'd go for a second opinion from another doctor. Something isn't right.

It could be worth trying a blue inhaler. My dad who isn't generally asthmatic sometimes gets an asthma type cough that is relieved by a Ventolin inhaler. If this works then go back to the GP and tell them and they should be able to give him a preventative inhaler. Asthma isn't always the stereotypical wheeze.

Also think about whether you've introduced any new plants to the house that could be the cause and turf them out if you have.

If it doesn't resolve I'd be back at the GP though requesting a referral for a chest xray.

I have this and my gp also role me it is acid reflux! I contested this and said I knew it was my lungs causing the issues as I can tell the difference! It’s making me feel terrible 6 weeks in.
