Urgent advice needed - postpartum brain issues

Hi all

Really worried about my close friend who had a baby a few weeks before me and is really not well. For the last couple of months she seems to be suffering with some kind of cognitive/brain impairment. It's affecting her ability to speak (difficulty finding words, concentrating on what's said, understanding the meaning behind what's been said), terrible memory, difficulty processing information, really poor judgement, struggling to drive - basically everything. She says she just feels like she's in a mental fog all the time and struggles to remember to do even basic things. She's also suffering with some anxiety, 'seeing things' including scary images before she goes to sleep, and some insomnia. Some physical symptoms too on and off like headache, nausea, and dizziness.

Initially I was thinking it was maybe just exhaustion from the new baby but apparently baby is a pretty good sleeper. Any thoughts on what might be going on here?

She needs to see a doctor asap. I have no idea what it is but it sounds serious and for it to be going on for a long time is worrying.

She needs to see her GP. Could be a whole host of things. Perhaps thyroid, anaemia, B12, coeliac etc. Needs bloods as a first step.

Od be worked about post partum psychosis if she's seeing things. Please support and encourage her to get seen urgently

I've had similar post Covid a few times.

As she been to her gp do you know ?
this doesn’t sound right ! I think I’d persuade her to go or go back and really explain her concerns about how she’s feeling. Or if you’ve noticed what she’s like go with her as back up so gp doesn’t fob her off as an anxious mother who’s just had a baby and maybe anxiety

Stroke?

Thanks all, she's been to her GP who has done some bloods and also thought perhaps thyroid issues. GP also prescribed antidepressants as thought it could be postnatal depression but my friend doesn't agree and doesn't want to take them, at least until bloods come back. I wouldn't have thought PND would cause symptoms like confusion etc would it?
