Hi all.
Been to a specialist private denist this morning for root canal treatment on an upper back tooth whixh I have been waiting months for. Ince co oketwd he spent ages looking at xrays and I could sense something was wrong. He called me over and said all nice and filled, but I could see a big white blob outside of the tip of my tooth in the black/inflamed area. He explained that it was some of the filling material but not to worry as it wouldn't cause any problems. Now I'm home I've started worrying about that and googled it and have seen it can cause ossie even nerve damage 😕 am I worrying over nothing? Anyone in the now about this type of thing? 🙏

Overfilling of sealant is a common thing , indeed a few years ago all endodontists wanted to see an "apical puff" ie sealant just beyond the apex. You are more likely to get this when there has been a bad infection.

You are filling a canal a fraction of a millimetre across, blind , in a confined space.

The success rate of a root canal in a specialists hands has , on average , a 90% success rate and in the vast majority of cases the material extruded beyond the end of the root is inert or resorbs. It should not be a problem.

Thank you- that's helped to put my mind at rest. He said before starting it that he would give it an 80% success rate because of the black infected area on the xray previously taken. Fingers crossed. It os hurting now (had stopped hurting weeks ago when I assume the nerve had died) but it's now sore again but presuming its just because of the procedure..
