hypnotherapy - need advice

I have started to see a hypnotherapist.

Mainly due to weight issues - she thinks that there are underline problems and can help me.

after our inital consultation I asked her how much it was and how many sessions. She say it is £65 per session. This is ok. But when discussing how many sessions she was very vague. She said every week for a while, and then every other week - then went on about once in a while.

Now this is all very thorough - but am I being taken for a ride financially? This could really add up - if this is normal I dont mind paying. I suppose that seeing Paul Mckenna - he seems to help in one session - but in reality it may be more.

anybody any advice or stories re hypnosis?

many thanks

I would check her qualifications to deal with your underlying issues for a start. Unfortunately, there are hypnotherapists about who aren't hugely qualified (like me!) who are perfectly competent at dealing with stopping smoking, losing weight, straight forward stress, and stuff like that, but the last thing I want to do is open a can of worms I can't deal with. I would say weight loss, to set up a pattern, would take 3 or 4 sessions, and meanwhile I would be teaching you self-hypnosis so you could bolster yourself along the way.

Hypnotherapy is not particularly well-regulated so do be very careful if you think you're going to see someone for more than a few sessions, and especially if they're going be delving deeply into your subconscious. Don't want to frighten you, but when I used to work at a practice in central London I was appalled at some of the things some of the therapists took on.

I haven't done it for years and am very out of date; can't tell you what professional bodies are out there to check with, but your therapist will, or should.
