Anyone know what I can give a 14 month old who has chickenpox?

I don't tend to give medicine/drugs unless absolutely necessary, but I remember chicken pox, and it was horrible, so I know she will need something. Apart from calpol and Calomine lotion does anyone have any ideas? Are homepathic medicines safe to buy for babies? Thanks for any help.

Antihistamines are apparently very good for stopping the itch. You would have to ask the pharmacist though as I don't know if they are suitable for babies that young.

You might be surprised. Once the spots are out she might not feel that bad, just a bit itchy. I had bad spots when I had it but I was as right as rain in myself.

Sorry, I posted before I got the chance to say I hope she feels better soon.

pIRITON IS THE ANTI HISTAMINE THE DOCTORS RECOMMEND (oops sorry for caps) - I would try it.Also oats in the bath water are very soothing. Put them in a sock/pair of tights and swirl htem around in a warm but not hot bath.

Oats in the bath?! That sounds like my sort of thing!
Thanks everyone for the advice.
I won't be able to go out until DH is home (late this evening) as DD is infectious, do the supermarkets stock medisid? (shows how inexperienced I am in buying medicines!)

Defo get the Antihistamines, really worked wonders with my 2. DD1 and DD2 got them at the same time and got them really bad, all over and in the mouth. Keep them topped up with the antihistamines and calpol as its a horrible dose. I used to put them in the bath with porrige oats 2-3 times a day to help releive the itch and it helped alot.. Hope she does'nt get a bad dose there horrible..

Bicarbonate of soda in the bath water, my two were in the bath about 4 times a day seemed to relieve the itchiness, needed a fair amount, felt odd buying loads at the spermarket! I also resorted to Piriton.

Right, I will get some oats, some bicarb and some piriton this evening, thanks everyone. Dh phoned from Boots at lunchtime to say he was picking up the calomine lotion.
Luckely I still BF her, so I am hoping that will help to comfort her too.
