Dd who is 7yr woke in the night with earache.Gave her calpol and she was ok this morning, just moaning about not going to school.(thought she was putting it on because she didn't want to go)
She has now been on the sofa for about an hour, with hand over her ear.She has said it keeps popping now and there is water coming out.
Any ideas apart from calpol, and should she see GP or is it just earache.

Sorry madmommy about your DD. I think if it was me I would ring doctors to get advice because of the liquid coming out of the ear. Hope she feels better soon.

I was thinking the same.Thanks

Sounds like a perforated eardrum - get her to the GP as she may need AB drops. If fluid is coming out then the pain should ease (sympathies to your DD, I had bad earache not so long ago and it was awful)

also ibuprofen on top of calpol may be needed for the pain (paracetemol on its own did nothing for me)

My ds (5) has just been through this - eardrum perforated last week. He has been prone to this since a baby. I didn't go to doc's because mine no longer give antibiotics for this but if it is the first time it has happened to your dd I would get it checked out. When ds has got better I am going to get his eardrums looked at for scarring and maybe get hearing tested.

Get it checked out. My DS1 suffers a lot with ear infections.

First time dd has been ill with her ears, its usally her tonsils.Phoned GP's no appontments,so will have to ring back later to see if i can take her.

You could ring NHS Direct in the meantime if you're worried - or go to your local pharmacist for advice. Many GPS don't prescribe for ear infections now. There has been some recent evidence that painkilling drops can help tho.

Just got back from doc's.Dd is now on AB for a ear infection.Doc said they don't always give them but felt in this case they were needed.
