Mysterious chesty illness

Covid tests negative so not Covid as far as I know.

3 out of 4 in the house have developed a real bad chesty cough, sore throat and all been given antibiotics for chest infections. Slight fevers, aching limbs etc.

no runny noses or sneezing.

only ever had coughs that have been on the tail ends of colds. Not straight to chest infection and we all get the same symptoms 🫣

2 of us have had this. I did get a very faint covid line 4 weeks ago then the cough lingered and gradually got worse. I’d be interested if anyone gets any more information on what it might be!

It's not mysterious. Just an infection that you've all picked up because you live in close quarters. It'll pass. Hope you feel better soon.

I agree with this

Thanks all. Maybe not mysterious but something we’ve never experienced in this house. I’m 32 and never had a chest infection and kids have only had them at the tail end of a cold 🫣 there was literally no warning, you wake up one day with a cough that won’t shift 🫣

Have had this for over a month, no end in sight yet. Ours was post-Covid though (although we did have a week or so of feeling pretty much well in between).

Ds has this too - he had it 9 weeks ago out of nowhere, received treatment, got better etc then woke up with the same symptoms on Sunday - he's not much better than he was on Sunday despite antibiotics but hasn't needed oxygen like last time

Chest infection is a very general term: it's important to know what type (bronchitis or pneumonia, then find out what caused it - a virus or a bacteria). In general when a 'chest infection' spreads through the household fast, it's more likely to be a viral infection, treatable with antivirals, not antibiotics. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/bronchitis/symptoms-causes/syc-20355566 & https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/pneumonia/symptoms-causes/syc-20354204
