Hypocalcemia - 22 weeks pregnant

I've just had some bloods done mainly to test my full blood count as I was having some dizzy spells.

My calcium levels came back low (1.8mmol/L) with the reference range 2.2 to 2.6 so it is down on my records as hypocalcemia. I've now got some more blood tests for my
Thyroid to do but doctor has just send all this through via text.

I've fell into the rabbit hole of google and now worried these low levels could damage the baby. Could this simply be caused by not having enough calcium in my diet? I don't really eat dairy or nuts/leafy greens. Can I just try and up my calcium intake with say milk and also take a supplement? Can't get into the gp for a couple of days so want to start something asap!!

I honestly don't know about baby but I wouldn't think this is dietary related. Your doctor will be checking thyroid and parathyroid hormones I expect. I don't know much about it but I'm sure they will be on it. Congratulations!

What is your adjusted calciun level as that’s the important one?
is your Vit D in range?

miniworry · 01/11/2023 06:30

@GreatBigBeautifulTommorow that is my adjusted calcium range- it was 1.6mmol the adjusted made 1.8.

Vitamin D levels are totally normally which is what worries me a bit more.

Wow. You must be feeling absolutely awful. Have you been suffering with tingling? I hope you’re on supplements for calcium, magnesium and vitamin D.

how are you now?
