With amoxicillin and prednisolone?

Just fancy a glass

Read the label/leaflets. If you can’t, they will tell you.

Tilllly · 31/10/2023 18:35

Doesn't say anything about alcohol so I reckon I can have a glass of wine later

There are about 84 other things I can drop dead of tho.... the leaflets with tablets are absolutely terrifying!!

Its metronidazole you shouldn't drink with. I know from awful experience where I was crawling across the floor at friends house after 1, small glass! Not a great look at all.

Herecomesdehotstepper · 31/10/2023 19:35

I was advised not to drink with Prednisolone.

Tilllly · 31/10/2023 20:07

Bugger 😞

My dh has been on prednisolone for almost 3 years, makes no odds to him.

NegativNancy · 31/10/2023 20:26

From my experience, as with the pp, metronidazole is the one you really don't want to combine with alcohol. Horrific.

Not heard of that one - dare I ask what happens?

Aye one or two small glasses will be fine. I've taken both drugs and had a wee dram here or there and been alright (with Dr approval). Moderation is key of course, don't knock back a whole magnum and you'll be reet.

VeridicalVagabond · 31/10/2023 22:32

Also metro+alcohol= hot flashes, projectile vomiting, horrible headache and a mouth dry as the arse end of a camel. Ask me how I know.

Pinkpinkplonk · 31/10/2023 22:40

@Tilllly It’s called a disulfiram reaction. Like giving Antabuse to deter alcoholism

I collapsed in my hairdressers the day after drinking while taking metronidazole.

Yes me too. Projectile vomiting a day or two after the course was finished. I had them recently and note they now tell you to wait a couple of days!

Tilllly · 01/11/2023 05:40

Nice little amoxicillin.... 😁

Well it won't kill you OP, however if I was on antibiotics it would be because I had an infection so I wouldn't drink as I would want to give my body the best chance of fighting it off. It was tuesday last night, was there a special reason to have a drink ? If not and not having wine for a?week whilst you are presumably unwell is challenging for you maybe you need to look at your relationship with alcohol......

Apologies uf these are longterm meds and it was a special occasion of some kind.

Yes, I understand what you're saying and I'd usually agree
I've stage 3 cancer and yesterday was a difficult day so the wine (and some chocolate) was a treat
