Hypermobile kid and wide comfortable shoes!

Hello all, I am not sure this is in the right place, but I need some help that google is not providing!

My DD9 is in a lot of pain with hyper mobility, especially in her feet and ankles. I just can’t find a shoe that she will wear and doesn’t appear to cause her pain.

Also, she has sensory issues and very wide feet!

The £50 Clark’s school trainers I have been getting fitted and buying are wrecked in a half term (she won’t wear any others, so wears them every day).

Which I wouldn’t mind if they weren’t causing her pain, but they are.

Does anyone have any suggestions for hypermobile wide feet shoes for kids. Ideally that come in black so she can wear them to school, but right now I would consider anything!

I have been looking at barefoot shoes today, but there is conflicting advice as to whether these are good for hypermobility or not.

We are under a physio but their suggestions of well fitting sturdy shoes, of which Clark’s fits the bill, don’t appear to be helping.

Also, very wet and cold days are approaching and I just feel that she needs something waterproof in the mix… which just adds to the complexity.

I am exhausted by internet searches… I was just wondering if anyone had any real life experience of this.

Thanks so much!

Hi OP, I’m 22 n have hypermobility. I wore Clark’s shoes all throughout primary and then in high school I had worn converse (not good), vans (okay but little support) and in my last 2 years wore kickers. These have great support, extremely comfortable, wide and lots of different styles. They are a bit more pricey but was one of the only shoes that I didn’t ruin the heel. I would get 4 months max from Clark’s shoes before the heel worn away. I would definitely recommend kickers. In terms of the pain, I have n still do have horrific pain in my ankles and knees, the cold doesn’t help me at all. I find that going from places with high temps like inside buildings to the outside really causes a sort of inflammation pain - body shop peppermint gel worked well to help get rid, not sure if they still sell it but maybe ask GP for ibuprofen gel for her if you don’t already use it.

I went with the kickers with the T bar design for extra support. When I did eventually burn the heel a bit my mum just got someone local to repair it for less than a tenner x

Both me and my son are hypermobile and wear BF shoes. You can add orthotics either forever or for a transition period and still benefit from the decent toe box. Happy Little Soles is a good place to look.
