Have I got my priorities right - or have I been had?

Dd(6) had a high temp Saturday evening so I gave paracetamol and waited for vom/dia to start. Nothing. Very lethargic yesterday and slight temp, but still nowt else. I am thinking 'funny little viral thing'. Didn't eat much. Slept very well last night.
I though she would be OK for school and physically she seemed it, so tried to brush her along this morning. After numerous false starts I gave in and told her to go back to the sofa. She has no temp but just seems really sluggish.
I was rather frustrated as life is a bit full at the moment. I have things that really HAD to get done in the office (self-employed), my Dad's in hospital and I wanted to get in and see his doctors on rounds, I was taking my niece's toddler later on whilst she accompanied her father to his first chemotherapy session. Also, I have two school governors' meetings later today.
Tell me I haven't been 'had' by dd and that she does need another day to recover from whatever she had. Tell me I'm right to put everything else on the back burner and stay indoors.
Tell me, please, to calm myself down and do a Scarlett O'Hara as in 'after all, tomorrow is another day' as I'm feeling VERY stressed.
(BTW Dd has just requested a bowl of tinned macaroni cheese and is watching Playhouse Disney...)

Sometimes they just feel "bleurgh" and the best place for them is home on the sofa.

You will know if you have been had if she is running around giggling and laughing by half past ten.

It sounds like she is under the weather and needs a day off with mum.

Thank you, thank you.
I don't usually have too many 'crises of parenting confidence' but there are SO many pulls on my time at the moment. So many potential guilt trips...
Am going to phone hospital to see if I can get dad's doctors that way.
If storm abates a bit, MIL will travel up from Maidstone to help latter half of day.
DH will get Ds from school bus at an earlier stop and keep him at work with him.
Neice's dad's hosp appointment changed to later so alternative toddler-care available.
Dog will have to miss his walk but summat's gotta give.
See, I am usually a font of calmness and practicality. It's just a Monday morning wobble.

Thanks Lisa. Can hear her muttering back at the telly now, so recovery may be imminent.
And we now have bright sunshine and gentle winds here in Croydon, we are def in the eye of the storm.
At least the dog can now get out into the garden!
I hate it when I have a wobble.

madmommy6 · 10/03/2008 12:38

It look like dd wasn't acting. She has been lying on the sofa for half hour and now she has water coming out her ear.
How is your dd MouseLady?

wishingchair · 10/03/2008 12:52

I had my dd (5) off for 2 days last week with similar things. No temperature but sluggish and feeling generally rubbish. Occasional tummy ache and really chesty cough, bit snotty too. I think viraly thing but frustrating as not really ill but just need the time to try to get over it.

Look on positive side ... if she's feeling better then you'll be back at work tomorrow!

MegGriffin · 10/03/2008 12:57

Mouselady I have similar here. DD(8) told me she had tummy ache and felt unwell this morning. She had a bit of a temperature 38.3 so after a lot of deliberating kept her home. She now appears to have made a miraculous recovery. I'm cheesed off because I have had to miss work so I wont get paid. I genuinly don't mind that if she is really ill but think she was pulling a fast one. This also happened two weeks ago. I have now said to her if future unless she has actually had sickness/ diahorrea or other physical symptoms I will be sending her in and will collect her if she really is ill. I'ts really hard to know what to do and it does sound like you were right to keep your DD home as she had not been right over the weekend as well.
