Hi,
I was flossing my teeth tonight and my crown fell out with what seems part of the tooth in it. Here’s a photo of my tooth, how bad does this look? I don’t have a dentist in the UK. I’m going back home in December. Do you think that this situation can last that long? I’m worried that the colourful dots are the canals and they will be prone to infection now the tooth and crown have fallen off. Is that the case or is it likely that they are sealed? I understand that nobody can say what will happen for sure, but my main worry is bacteria entering the canals? If any dentists are awake at this time I would be very grateful to hear from you. Many thanks

The colourful dots are root filling material. There’s no way of telling if there’s a crack or infection from the photo

ideally this need’s looking at and at least sealing over if possible, although there’s not much left

Thank you for your help. Do you mean a crack in the root filling material?

Yes, of course, I just wonder if it will be ok to leave until December so I can see a dentist when I go home.. as you say there’s not much left, perhaps an extraction will be the resolution anyway.

No I mean in what’s left of the root structure. The two pink dots are two separate canals from two roots. If there is a crack between the two roots infection can easily get in

Infection will get down the root canals (orange splodges). The saying is “the seal’s the deal” and these aren’t sealed at all.

There’s no way of knowing how long this will last until it causes problems. It could be tonight or months

Ok thank you

Do you think that if the tooth has to be extracted it can be done by a dentist or would it be a surgical extraction? Thank you

This happened to me and I had to go to hospital to have it removed because, like yours, there wasn’t much left once the crown had come out.

Pinkpinkplonk · 30/10/2023 10:54

Should be ok for your normal dentist to extract. But can’t be sure without looking at X-ray

Thank you very much
