Nose Won't Stop Running

Any idea how to stop an itchy nose that will not stop running? Pretty sure it's allergic as been on and off for few weeks now (I'm autoimmune so do have fun reactions to things for no reason)... have tried citirizine, Benadryl, sinus nasal spray, nose-unblocker nasal spray, Beechams Max capsules, ibuprofen, Sudafed Mucas Relief, face steaming and peppermint tea. I have a very sore nose and can't get anything done as I just have to keep blowing it - I'm now holding a flannel to it as I can't afford to keep buying tissues! This flare up started overnight and kept waking me up... Anyone got any ideas? Getting a bit sick of it now!

I wonder if trying so many remedies has actually irritated it more? I love the unblocker nasal spray when needed but read that it shouldn’t be used for more than a few days as it makes it worse longer term

Are You Overusing Nasal Spray?

Nasal sprays may ease nasal congestion, but overusing them can backfire into a condition called rhinitis medicamentosa.

Thanks for responding, I've not used them much though - hadn't used anything when it started as was asleep then started trying to use things when it wasn't getting better. Everything I've tried I've waited half hour at least to see if it's worked. Nothing seems to help at all, other than continually blowing it. I sneeze too and nose is very itchy, I assume inflamed.

My DS can get like this due to a grass allergy and dust mite allergy (can't win indoors or out, poor thing!)
We bought a bottle from Amazon, it's like a plastic water bottle and you spray the warm saline solution (salt sachets provided) through your nose. It's not pleasant but certainly not awful. The water goes up one nostril and flushes out through the other. With him, it tickles him and after he's finished, usually has a massive sneeze which expels alot of it out, he gets some relief after that. Let me see if I can grab a link for you... It just takes me to the app, sorry. Try looking on Amazon for:
'Neti pot sinus rinse'
Currently on sale at £13.48, plenty of reviews to look at too to see if you think it'd help.

I know a number of people recently who had a perpetually running nose and it turned out they had COVID. It happened to me. Runny nose seems to be the only or main symptom.I'd give up on trying to stop it. You could just be making it worse. Stop blowing it. Use cotton wool instead of tissues to mop up. Vaseline to protect skin on and near nose. Changes in temperature can set it off e.g cold or hot drinks.

I get this sometimes, think mine is dust mite related but does flare up badly occasionally. I take piriton (chlorphenamine maleate) or the chemist own brand version, but its that active ingredient that works for me - no other antihistamines touch my allergies. You have to get it over the counter. I take it 2-3 times daily and usually after a couple of days everything has settled down.

Thanks - I considered the neti pot last time and chose drugs instead! Figured my little teapot could work so duly boiled and salted some water. It's pretty unpleasant, my nose did clear but it's starting to sniffle again already. Read up a bit on the wonders washing your sinuses though and looks like might be a good thing to get into so I'll get one one prime for tomorrow.

It keeps coming and going though so I've discounted any kind of virus, I reckon I'll probably be fine again tomorrow - until the next time!

Think it's wine for me at the moment, which is depressing - I just tend to develop an intolerance for something for a while and then it goes away. Sometimes I get runny nose, other times I have trouble breathing or get hives etc. Autoimmunity's super-fun, never know what the day will bring! I live on citirizine which mostly keeps me functioning but the chemist recommended Benadryl. In fact, she guaranteed that it would work - I think I deserve a refund. I'll ask for chlorphenamine maleate tomorrow - do you know if it comes in non-drowsy? Thanks

After a lifetime of a runny nose, and discounting one theory after another, my running nose disappeared when I seriously cut sugar from my diet. Obvious sugars and less obvious sugars like starchy carbs (bread, rice, potatoes etc.)

A lot of the remedies actually include sugar so we're setting me off again even if they short term seemed to help.

Hope you find what works for you.

Yeah, I can't have much sugar at all, or processed food. When I'm well I can tolerate stuff like legumes, nightshades and even bread and small amounts of sugar but sometimes I get inflamed and react to everything, though wine's unusual. A nose this bad is also unusual. Only thing guaranteed to fix me is water fasting, but it's hard and takes time which I just don't have at the moment.

Am feeling a lot better this morning, still a bit snuffly but nothing like yesterday - my nose bloody hurts though, I got through a box and a half of tissues!
