ds with nasty cold: should I vaccinate?

Ds has had a cold every 5 mins it seems ever since dd went back to nursery after he was born.

His first lot of jabs (they give them at 2 months here - the hib, whooping cough, polio etc ones) were given at 4 months (because he'd been ill) and they told me to get the other 2 lots at 6 months and 8 months.

He had the second lot OK, but at 8 months he started getting the constant colds again. I meant to take him last week but it's really awkward as you can only go between 11 and 1 (i.e. lunchtime and right in the middle of the time he's at nursery).

Now he has a cold again. (so probably a good thing I didn't take him on Friday).

But my question is - does it matter if the 3rd lot of jabs is really late? I ask as we are going away for xmas so if I don't do it on Monday (despite the cold) it won't be till jan.

no it doesn't matter .. I think as long as they're done within 6 months of last one (don't quote me on that)

I wouldn't take him with a cold

BTW they start at 2 months in UK too

Hi so far my DD hasn't had her 3rd jab, due to one thing or another, she is 12m! I recently got new GP and he said she needed to catch up on them, and to do it as soon as possible, the later they get them, the longer they are vulnerable to the infections. I think that is how it is but you should maybe check with your HV.

The main problem with leaving too long a gap is that you increase the risk of an allergic type reaction to tetanus (not sure it is an actual bona fide allergic reaction- but its a sensitivity iyswim). I'd ask your doctor specifically about that and see what he says. Not sure what the current thinking is. That's partly why they clumped the jabs together in the UK.

Why not get your GP to check him out and decide on the day ? My ds3 had his 8 week jabs this week dispite a chest infection - because on balance it was better he had the jabs in case he ended up in hospital with bronchiolitus. They didn't make him any more poorly or give him higher temps - he's just not sleeping but then wasn't anyway!
