Post covid hair

Hi all

I've always had long, thick, straight hair. Ive never had a hairbrush as my hair is just silky and straight and requires little to no maintenance. And it was so thick hairdressers would ask to pay extra for blowdries.

I had covid in April 2022, and by June 2022 I lost 60% of my hair. It fell in fistfuls, around 4 mugs of hair a day. I could see the thinness on my scalp and at the bottom of my braid. It was incredibly depressing.

Fast forward a year. I took nutritional care of myself and I managed to regain my hair. However, my hair is now completely different. It's dry, coarse and very wavy, like a curly girl before the CG routine. It's driving me nuts! Very frizzy and wavy and I just look like an unkempt mess most of the time unless I style it. I am reluctant to use heat, because I never have, and don't want to damage already precarious hair situation.

Has anyone else experienced change of hair texture post covid, and what did you do about it that helped?

Thank you!

Not Covid but I've lost a lot of hair post flu in February. My hairdresser was saying that a lot of her clients are experiencing post Covid hair changes.

I'm using Plantur 39 shampoo. Too early to say if it works but it feels nice.

Rosemary and almond oil left on the scalp over night and washed off in the morning.

VO5 serum before blow drying.

I also have very long thick hair. I always find I lose some if I've had a bad virus etc never happened in my teens or twenties!

It's been coloured, bleached, braided etc over the years and is still in pretty good condition. Using heat etc to style it doesn't damage it as I use a good heat protectant currently bumble and bumble.

Yes mine has changed too. I’m trying Philip Kingsley Elasticizer but it’s too early to comment yet.

Any serious illness can cause hair loss. I lost a fair bit after covid but it grew back the same. After breast cancer I lost it all and it grew back wavy. Sadly the waves didn't last long!

Thanks all. I'll try the above, hopefully it will help.

I had this too! I had a very mild case of Covid (was unwell for one day), but my hair has gone through the same changes as you.
It is not helpful, but I haven't done anything about it as I don't really care. But if you do, it can be annoying
