Kidney Failure

not the post I would usually write about to be honest but just in shock and need some insight into this of what to expect as I'm worried about my dad... It's like everything has all of a sudden moved so fast from friday - EVENTUALLY going to doctors as he hasn't seemed himself over the last say 3/4weeks (vomiting, sleeping more often, lack of appetite, no energy, loosing weight, etc) was begging him to make a doctors appointment weeks ago by the way! - to yesterday going to doctors for bloods done, then today I get a call from my dad's doctors to say bloods have come back and his kidney function isn't good at all! - at 13% now which is, i believe CKD stage 5 kidney failure isn't it?? (done abit of reasearch on google) - in comparison to a couple of months ago his kidney function was at just over 30%!! So their concern is this quick decline in kidney function and obviously sent my dad an ambulance to his home (he is struggling to walk also due to muscle weakness & pain in his legs)
Like wtf!? it's mental when I have felt like over these last few weeks I have been watching my dad slowly die like fade away he just isn't himself at the minute and is very frail just don't know what to think of it all or what to expect from today onwards?

Is he going to die? What will they have sent him in hospital for exactly?.. also bit of background medical info - my dad was diagnosed with CHF last year & LVD, type 2 diabetes(diagnosed in April 2017) but has to take insulin, and also chronic pancreatitis. He's only 60 aswell. Will they offer him dialysis or a transplant? - as I'm thinking that may not be an option as how he currently is physically right now & also his other health conditions.. am I right to think like this? Just hope it doesn't sound like I'm writing him off! I just don't know what to think 🤷‍♀️ I'm scared to be honest and I can't switch off.

There’s a million and one things that could cause kidney function to deteriorate like this. It’s almost impossible to comment on the treatment options/prognosis without a lot more information - the only people who will be able to answer your questions are the ones with all the info.

yes I understand that was just looking for some insight from maybe anyone who's experienced this/or had family members go through similar. And maybe any people who are medically experienced. As it just doesn't make any sense to me, he is currently in a side room and they have took more bloods ect. But thanks anyway.

Hiya OP. My mum ended up in ITU (during the pandemic) with kidney failure caused by food poisoning. She was on dialysis for a number of weeks after coming out of ITU.

I'm sorry, I don't remember specifics about bloods etc as it is all a bit of a blur now, and it was a strange old time anyway due to lockdown, but I just wanted to let you know that she has a good 10 years on your dad, was seriously poorly, but has gone on to recover.

Very much hoping for a similar outcome for your dad Flowers
