Strained back muscle and spasms

So, about 10 days ago I coughed and did a muscle in my back. The cough wasnt bad, it was just in response to a tickle, i dont have a cold or covid or anything so it wasnt continuous. I assumed I'd pulled a muscle.

For the next few days although it was painful it was manageable. I took it easy in that I cancelled the gym sessions I had booked, was careful with bending, but tried to be as mobile as possible.

Thursday evening we'd just had dinner, I stood upto put plate in dishwasher but was met with excruciating pain. To cut a long story short a couple of hours later I went to the loo but couldn't stand up again because of pain.😢we called 111 for advice and an ambulance dispatched. They agreed it was a strained or pulled muscle so didn't take me to hospital but advised GP as a matter of urgency. I saw GP friday lunchtime and diagnosed with a back sprain and prescribed dihydrydecodeine (sp).

The pain is still severe, especially getting in/out of bed or chair (forget about the sofa, I'm watching TV in a desk chair). But now I'm getting cramps or spasms, and omg the pain!! I've been very unlucky the last 2 years, have broken both my shoulders in separate incidents and have had gallstones which was operated, and this pain is up there with gallstones and broken bones but a pulled muscle sounds so mild!!!!

i've been using a hot water bottle and got a TENS machine and have ordered a back support pillow from Amazon (I bought a similar one for my shoulder after I broke it and it really helped).

Apart from the GP i've not left the house due to the pain. I know I need to be active and I'm not spending my time in bed (tempting as it is given the pain getting up) and walking up and down the hall to keep mu muscles active though am finding this painful.

My husband did mention something and I wonder if there's something in it. I had my gallbladder out 2 years back but this was minor as it was keyhole. In 2015 though I had a hysterectomy, both uterus and cervix removed in the traditional way. He wondered if these ops may have caused some damage to the muscles? (I have no ìdea if this is possible or not). However when I've getting out of bed, I found it helped if I kind of gripped myself to my front and I swear I can feel one of the scars from the gallbladder removal and I am also more aware of the stitches from the hysterectomy.

Hopefully this pain will go soon, I wouldn't wish it on anyone. If you'd told me 2 weeks back muscle pain was this bad, I doubt I'd have believed you!

Has anyone any experience of this? The original pain after the cough was midback to the left, but now it's radiating to the front and where my shoulder blade is. The muscle spasms seem to be roughly where the back of the bra strap is.

Not exactly the same as yours, but I did have what turned out to be a herniated disk. it wasn't right since pregnancy, but then tiny things would set it off again. Usually it would die down within a week, but once it took three months before I could actually sit down at all and a couple of years for it to completely go. I had osteopathy and went to individual Pilates sessions, but I think the main thing that sorted it out was just being consistent about doing exercises every morning and not overdoing it when I felt okay. If there's anywhere you feel you can ice that might be helpful. I was told not to do too many tightening exercises as part of the problem was my muscles were too tight already. It was pretty miserable but I'm okay now. Sounds like your body has had quite a battering with various things, so possible that has led to where you are now Flowers
