Braces/invisalign

I have a very crooked upper incisor which actually comes right over the front of my front teeth. I am thinking of getting is straightened along with some other dental work that needs to be done.

Has anyone had this done - what did it cost roughly and how long did it take. DId it hurt? Was it irritating to have to take it out each time you ate? Did you lose weight (this is my thought to stop me from snacking!)

Any other useful info?

Thank you.

Picture is one similar to mine.

My teeth are much worse, and I’d also like to know.

Handsnotwands · 21/10/2023 12:54

My teeth were quite similar to the picture

i am nearly at the end of my Invisalign

its cost around £3k. There’s a payment plan, no interest if you pay over 1 or 2years. Something like 5% interest if you pay over 3 years. It includes whitening at the end and night time retainers forevermore

my initial set was 20 weeks. Im now doing a final 8 weeks of minor refinements

some trays feel tighter and you can feel them more than others. It’s never really hurt, just a bit of a dull ache from time to time

its a bit of a pain taking them out to eat but I quickly got used to it. It definitely cuts down on snacking

ive got quite a few attachments which are like little tooth coloured blobs that hold the tray in place more firmly. Weirdly it’s these I hate the most because it looks like I’ve got bits of bread stuck to my teeth 😂

got say I am thrilled with the results and my smile has changed so much, from a weird closed mouth grimace to an actual 😁

I had Invisalign, it cost about 5k and I started with 20 trays (1 week per tray), and then I had some refinements which were included in the cost (it's a comprehensive plan with refinements included for 5 years). I didn't have much pain or discomfort with them at all, the only annoying thing was that they affected my speech slightly and it was irritating having to take them out to each but in the long run it has been totally worth it and money well spent - I could see results really quickly and there was a dramatic difference from start to finish. Only thing to bear in mind is that you will need to wear retainers at night afterwards to stop the teeth moving about again.

I had Damon braces as an adult, was 2k a good few years ago. Only on for 6mths and teeth perfectly straight now. Yes invisaligns work but from what I was told they take much longer and cost more depending on what the correction needed, you may find Damons are the quickest and cheapest. I could see the correction literally on a weekly basis.

THank you for all your info. I will be having implants in two places and crowns as well - they seem good dentists and have different people for different specialities. It is about 650 euros for an implant (or thereabouts). I have not been quoted for the braces yet - that is next week.

It is usually recommended to get Invisalign treatment done before you get any implants, so discuss this with your dentist first. I'm in the process of getting aligners too. Cost will be just over £3k. I had metal braces as a teen so I think I know what to expect pain-wise. I imagine aligners to be slightly less painful.

bobisbored · 21/10/2023 14:33

I had Invisilign. It cost around £3k and it took around a year as my teeth hadn't quite moved enough. I'm probably 90% happy. They're not perfect but I absolutely hated them before and now I can smile properly.

Finestreason · 21/10/2023 14:37

Ohh, following this as I’ve considered the Invisalign. I’ve seen an orthodontist for cosmetic train track braces (top teeth only, need similar to yours, OP) but haven’t decided yet.

bobisbored · 21/10/2023 14:42

Oh I forgot to mention I lost a stone! It's a bit of a pain to take them out to eat because you are supposed to brush your teeth before you put them back in. It was quite sore to begin with but that soon wears off. I use my retainers every night still after 3 years because I'm so used to them I find I can't sleep without them!

LaunchingTeabag · 21/10/2023 14:42

I had similar teeth to those in your photo. I opted for a train track metal brace on my upper teeth (bottom ones were ok).

It cost about £1.5k and my teeth were straight in 18 months. Best thing I ever did. Hardly any pain. Didn't lose weight but bags of confidence when they were sorted.

Handsnotwands · 21/10/2023 15:21

So this is the laser thing of my teeth at the start, so you can see actually v similar to your picture.

and where they were predicted to end up. And yes, they’re pretty much like that now with 3 last trays to go

I put behind a spoiler cos they’re teeth, albeit computer generated. and might freak some people out
