Gum Graft for receding gums

Hi
I have receded gums on my bottom two front teeth. I've been told gum Graft is the solution and I'm really scared about the pain after procedure and recovery as I have a toddler to look after. How long did it take to recover and how bad is the pain. How difficult was it to eat during recovery??

I have no idea but following as I also am interested. How much is it costing if you don't mind?

Following also as I have a similar issue…

I know it is a different procedure but I have had peridontal surgery at the dentists where gum was cut away and I had stitches. I really dislike going to the dentist and was dreading it- not least when I was in the waiting room
and they were gowning up! All that said it was fine- I didn’t feel anything and the stitches after were manageable. I ate on the other side and the pain was fine. Hopefully this helps

My DP had this done a year ago. The procedure itself was painless, with local anaesthetic. He took some paracetamol while his mouth was still numb and rested for a few hours when he got home. After that the soreness was manageable with ibuprofen and paracetamol, which he took for four days. He was still a bit sore after that and had to be careful to stick to soft food, but didn't need any more painkillers. His jaw also ached for a few days from being held open. He felt fine by the time he went back to have his stitches out a week later. He also had to take antibiotics for a week, with the first dose straight after the procedure. His face reached peak swelling on Day 3!

Any price ranges please?

I had this done x2 in 2020. He charged me £750 both times (cries).

The first time was fine, the worst bit was the local going into the roof of the mouth and then the length of time it takes. The sore part on my palate healed up fairly well and I was made a plate to cover it so I could eat etc.
The second time, the area that was harvested wasn't as good and recovery was painful and tough, I could barely eat and thrbpkate didn't cover it. So two quite different experiences in the same mouth.

I wouldn't do it again as the second time was so hard.

I've been quoted between 850 to 950. I'm not worried about the procedure itself. Get worked up about the post recovery

@PangramAddict @MariaMeringue how successful was the graft. Any issues since then? And how long did it take to get back to normal food?

@MariaMeringue the other thing I'm worried about is will my son recognise me with the swelling post surgery..he's only 16months old!

Graft healed well (tho he remarked I healed the best he's seen) and no problems since. The teeth are definitely less loose.
I had very little swelling. The first time I could eat soft normal food after about two or so days. I had two such different experiences you just have to go for it as it does work!

Mix56 · 22/10/2023 10:01

I had this, no face swelling. The plate helped, the worst was over in about 4 days.
But I'd be lying to say it didn't hurt ! It did, like a bastard. (Ive never had a tooth out, so cant give a comparison )

I kept eating. Carefully

Also, agreed the injection in the palate was bad, but over in seconds
