Blood platelets high but GP seems disinterested. Any GP’s about please?

Two years ago I went to the GP with IBS symptoms. They did a FIT test (clear) and took bloods. I called for the blood results and was told all was ok.
I was told it’s IBS and given a script for meberverine.

A couple of weeks ago I revisited the GP to talk about heavy periods and ovarian / bowel area pain. Again a full blood count was done. This time I was called back as when reviewing my bloods the platelets were at 465 - to my surprise she said the platelets were also high two years ago (around the same sort of figure).

I asked why it wasn’t followed up last time and she was a bit vague, she said ‘oh it’s probably non specific’ and asked for me to have them repeated.

I got home and googled it and it could mean cancer! I’ve tried not to worry, I had the bloods repeated and they are still around 430 but I’ve been told they are improving and no more checks are needed as they are now below the surgery limit of 450.

Im concerned that I seem to have a general high level of platelets and am concerned that I have some form of slow growing cancer or something. My grandfather had a rare skin type cancer like a lymphoma and my grandmother mother had MGUS so there’s that kind of thing in the family.

Should I push for more investigations? I’m 50 and do feel like my health is deteriorating a little (tiredness, headaches, dizziness, aches and pains) but that could also be perimenopause.

Does anyone know if I should push for more checks? Or can I trust the process and be happy all is well?

Most haematology pathways wouldn't accept a referral for this unless your platelets are over 500.

And even then they might just write a letter to your GP to say to keep monitoring rather than actually see you and do more tests.

Yours may just be normal for you.

I would write a list of all your symptoms and the impact they are having.
Be more specific about your aches and pains and include If it in combination with other symptom s (easy bruising, night sweats, fullness under left ribs).

There are lots of reasons platelets could be high.

If you think it could be Peri - are you looking at HRT? With lots of overlapping symptoms then it can take a while to rule stuff out but you know your body better than anyone so if something doesn’t seem right then it warrants some more investigation

Mine are also out of the normal limit, 448.
My doctors surgery aren’t bothered at all ! They have just said it’s probably normal for me.

What were your white and full blood count results. If these were in the normal ranges your platlets are most likely your standard. I understand as my platlets fluctuate below the bottom range and it freaked me out. But it’s just me and my weird blood.

Thanks for your replies. I don’t know what the rest of my blood results were, I was only told about the platelets.

I am looking at HRT, when I went to the GP about the heavy periods I was also booked in for an ultrasound so I assume I’ll need to have this before I’ll be considered for HRT? Doctor appointments are really difficult to get so I don’t want to waste my time going back to ask for HRT again and be told I need to wait for the ultrasound results.
