Weight loss from probiotics or something more sinister?

I'm 40 years old, have been a stable weight (50-51kg) for about the last 10 years (not including pregnancies). Over the last 6 months I started to slowly gain weight, going up to 53.5kg, and tried to lose it by cutting carbs in the evening, which didn't work at all. I bought some probiotics in the summer for an unrelated stomach issue and took them for a month, during which we went on a camping holiday. When I got back my weight was back down to 51kg again, although I ate quite a lot. The weight has stayed off, and people also keep commenting on how my face has changed and how slim I look, although I haven't made any lifestyle changes that I'm aware of, and though 2.5 kg shouldn't really be enough to change my face/body so much. I see the difference in my face too, my cheeks have hollowed, and it doesn't look unpleasant but seems to have happened so fast and with no real explanation.

I would otherwise be pleased but my mum died of ovarian cancer a few years ago and her first symptom was unexplained weight loss. So it's always hanging over my head and worrying me. I worry if I gain weight and then worry if I lose it! It's no fun.

So my question is: did anyone experience similar weight loss with probiotics? Please don't mention brand names as I don't want this thread to be a marketing opportunity. Just share if you did, and how dramatic it was, how long it took, how much you lost etc.

Drinking Kefir daily resulted in me losing weight and not putting it back on so it could well be, although if you have any concerns you really should speak to the GP.
