Good luck OP, l hope you will be sedated so you don't feel anything. Make sure you ask for plenty of sedative! Wishing you all the best.

I've had this done twice as first one failed!
It was very easy, well sedated and very quick recovery after! Good luck x

Good luck op. I had this done last year as my bile duct was blocked and I had dreadful jaundice. First attempt under sedation failed but next attempt under GA was successful. I was up and going home within a few hours, feeling fine. Hope all goes well x

Thanks all. Just waiting to go in now. Apparently the consultant doing it is 30 years in with experience so hopefully will be successful

Thanks feeling pretty much ok. Procedure was a little more dramatic than I would like fainting after the cannula was put in. Oh how embarrassing.

ERCP went well I only remember some gagging and mumering something. Strange thing is they could not see the stone or obstruction. So believe it could have come out on it's own.

Glad to hear you are OK OP!
I’m a fainter too with things like this!!
Good news too if it had already passed out?!

Anyway, all over, now you can relax!
Hope your symptoms are much improved.

Take care.

i assume you’ve had the procedure by now? Maybe no…unfortunately.
Ive been told today that I need this…can you give me any idea what it’s like?
Thing I’m pretty concerned about is someone shoving a suppository up my bum!
Hope you’re ok now xx

Hi @Gall10 - yes, I've had this done now. I was lucky enough to have it under a general anaesthetic, so I'm afraid I can't tell you what it was like under sedation. I have no idea if I had a suppository shoved up me, but certainly didn't know a thing about it if so.

I was actually quite nervous before the procedure even though I knew it was going to be under a GA, so I asked for a pre-med when I went in a couple of weeks later to have my gallbladder out. I don't know what options you will have if you're having sedation, but definitely tell them how anxious you are. They might be able to give you something else to help you feel calm.

I'm now free of gallstones and pain free for the first time in two years, which is wonderful!

I hope your procedure goes well.

Thanks for taking time to reply!
Im also having gallbladder out at a later date…not too bothered about that as I’ll be under GA & they can do what they want!
I’ll just look forward to having the tea & toast after it….maybe with a bit of butter on the toast for the first time in months!
cheers!

Hello everyone I’ve been followed this thread as I was scheduled for ERCP! Had it done on Thursday and it went well, “Text Book” is a what the notes said but my goodness I have been in so much pain since I got home, I never slept at all on the first night because the pain was so bad, I’m feeling bruised and bloated and have no apetite!! Most I can manage is half a bowl of soup and a slice of bread.. the recovery time is taking longer than I expected..!!

This was Ercp? Not gallbladder removal? I was led to believe Ercp didn’t have any lasting effects.

@Gall10 - I hope it has lasting effects! I also had ERCP to remove gallstones from my bile duct. A cut was made in the bile duct to allow any future stones to pass through.

I also had my gallbladder removed.

Just to update anyone following this post I attended the hospital for a follow up appointment today and when I explained how much pain I had been in and how long it took me to recover the surgeon said he was not surprised as the ERCP is classed as a major procedure..!! That’s not what I was led to believe but here we are! Good luck to anyone who is going for an ERCP and be gentle with yourself, I’m still recovering ❤️‍🩹
