Restless Legs

Has any body got any experience of 'restless legs?

I know this sounds daft but...what are the symptoms?

I have had 3 nights where I have had disturbed sleep due to painful legs with burning joints. Still have it and I am uselesly stuck in bed with a laptop atm.

If anybody has coped with this, what meds did you take?

I have a feeling this is a symptom of my lovely MS. I just need to know how to tackle this new thing.

TIA

Groucy I was going to respond on FLY, but I suffered with last pregnancy and it is a side effect of one of my medds now. I found natural source vitamin e helpful, as runs withLiz Earle Energising Hip and Thigh Gel Also puting my feet on to a really cold surface.

Hope this helps as it is awful

Sorry I mean rubs - I am not really with it this morning - lack of sleep

Every evening I get restless legs - builds as an unbearable sort of tingling and if I ignore it too long my leg will jerk involuntarily, or I get up and stand which helps. Stretching my calfs out always seems to feel nice, although doesn't really stop it if I sit down again.

I have had some success at times running my legs under a really cold shower.

Exercise or even just more general walking makes it much worse.

Doesn't affect my joints though, it's just muscular for me.

My Mum gets it and seems to think taking a paracetamol helps her, I haven't tested this theory though. Oh, and there was a time she would smoke something not exactly legal and that helped a lot.

Oh, it is worse if my iron gets low - pg was dreadful and I think a lot of that was because I got very anaemic in pg.

Ta THM Don't think I'm prying but which med is it a side effect of?

I take

10mg Citaloprim
4mg Tolteradine Tartrate
150mg Pregabalin
10-20mg Amantadine

ring any bells with you?

(Bloody hell, you'd think I thought you were a pharmacist! Sorry)

It is not nice. intensly Hot legs then icey cold legs then itchy burning joints and chronic pins and needles

grrrh

It is a side effect of my quetiepine, which I take to get to sleep.

I had a quick look in my BMA book and could not see it as any of the side effects in your medications, but I would ask a pharamsit to be sure.

Vit E capsules arnt going to cause you any hard in any case

I get restless legs. I usually take some paracetamol or similar to get rid of it. It usually occurs when i'm overly tired.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 08/03/2008 11:29

I too get this, but only when I am very tired. Its awful and dh doesnt understand when I say I really have to go to bed now. It is the only thing that cures it.

Grouchyoscar · 08/03/2008 11:36

I am staying in Duvet Land, researching good kids books, scoffing pregabalin (for neuopathic pain) and feeling very sorry for myself.

NO1 My DH doesn't understand either

Thanks for the tips, more appreciated

Now i did read that if you lie on the floor with your bum against a wall and your legs up against the wall then it was meant to sort out the blood in the your legs. Something like that. I tried it and it did work for me but its quite uncomfortable.

kkgirl · 08/03/2008 12:41

Don't know if it will help anyone. My friend gets it and has cut caffeine out, now has de-caff tea and the restless legs have gone.

Grouchyoscar · 08/03/2008 16:56

Phoned my dad's DP, she gets it and takes he meds I do so I've upped that. Seems I've had a MS hic up (again)

It's like I've forgotten to switch my legs off!
