He was coughing in night too.

Had humidifier on in night and blue puffer.

He has had 10 puffs on blue puffer, twice this morning.

He has had his purple puffer.

Had Clarytin as he is usually worse in march. I think due to Tree Pollen.

I haven't had to use humidifier or blue puffer since the new purple puffer took effect. And after he had steroids.
So thats good I suppose. i was using them a lot before.

When he's coughing a little 'hole'/indent appears on his chest area.

He said it hurts when he starts to cough.

He seems ok between coughs though. Is stencilling ATM.

Do I need to do anything else??

TIA Mel

How often is he using his inhaler? (the blue one), Is he hable to talk to you? Lip colour?

Hassled · 08/03/2008 09:23

I think ring NHS Direct at this stage. If it's abnormal enough for you to be posting then just get it checked out properly.

princessmel · 08/03/2008 09:28

He's using the blue inhaler when I give it to him as he's only 5.
Yes he can talk and is playing. Just coughing a lot. He gets on with it.

If I ring NHs direct I assume they'll say go in to the out of hours surgery.

Just checking I haven't forgot a really obvious idea to help him.

A cough is also a respiratory problem, the same as a wheeze. My son is asthmatic and I have done 2 years of peads nurse training. I seriously think that he needs to be seen by a doctor, it sounds as though he may just need some steroids to help his airway to open up. NHS Direct tend to send asthmatic children to the A&E, I would do the same and get him checked by a doctor. I'm sure that he'll be fine but I really do think that you need to take him to see a doctor. Let me know how you get on.

princessmel · 08/03/2008 09:39

Thanks avanap. He doesn't tend to wheeze. just cough.
That was the main symptom when he was diagnosed at 18m.
I will take him if he doesn't stop in the next hour. Dh will be back from work by then. Hopefully.

Ds1 is asthmatic and from what you have told me it is time to see the doctor.

avenanap · 08/03/2008 09:42

If he becomes worse, is unable to talk to you, becomes blue or the inhaler stops working you must call an ambulance. I hope all goes well and I'll be thinking of you.

Hello

I called our gp and got the number for the out of hours doctor. They said we should come in.

We went to the hospital and they said ds has a chest infection. His asthma is fine. They gave him antibiotics so it doesn't get worse and affect his asthma.

Thanks for your help earlier.

You are more than welcome. I am so pleased that you've got this sorted and I hope he's feeling better soon. I prescribe plenty of cuddles and kisses.

SpacePuppy · 08/03/2008 16:09

do you give him clarytin often? I found I have an attack after I take clarytin and am now using piritize for myself. Is it possible that he is starting with a cold?

princessmel · 09/03/2008 11:58

Thanks aveanap he seems much better today.

spacepuppy, no we don't. I only gave it to him as I thought his coughing may be due to the tree pollen. In the past, march has been his 'worst' month for coughing.
