Post-nasal drip driving me absolutely crazy

Hi, I’ve been living with post-nasal drip for about 13 years. Doctor suggested saline nasal rinses but I can’t tolerate them. GP won’t refer me to ENT because it’s not viewed as serious enough. But it’s got so bad over the past couple of months it is stopping me from getting to sleep and it’s driving me crazy, to the point I feel like I’m going to properly lose it and start screaming and smashing stuff. I’m just so uncomfortable and irritated by it ALL the time. And it’s worst at night because there is nothing to distract me from the discomfort.

Has anyone with post-nasal drip found a way to manage it or reduce it?

mine was so bad I gave up dairy. It stopped completely.

I bought a saline nebuliser that vapourises the saline so you don't feel it. Absolutely fantastic bit of kit.

I suffered horrific sinus symptoms aswell as GERD and had to have surgery to try to sort it all out. I had recurrent mrsa infections that would turn into pneumonia or tonsillitis and leave me bed ridden for 2 weeks of every 6-8 weeks. The surgery didn't really help. By a fluke I was put forward for a sleep study as I mentioned snoring and was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea . My terrible heart burn, sinus infections and post nasal drip all stopped that very first night I got my cpap. Been 7 weeks and I've hard heart burn/reflux once after eating a hot sausage roll and that's it. Not a single snotty nose, post nasal drip, snore, nothing.

Also if you are using a Neti pot you really shouldn't be tasting the salt water at all. I've been using one for 12 years and still do daily as a routine and just use a pinch of sea salt and warm water and I've never ever tasted salt water unless I've coughed/choked

This is the one I got. Used it every day for the first week, sporadically over the next few weeks, and now only when I've had a cold.

@Pegs11 just wondering if you found anything that has helped with your nasal drip? I’m suffering at the minute!

Pegs11 · 22/11/2024 11:16

@Sunshine92 nope, haven’t found anything yet. I’ve noticed I do seem to get flare-ups… some times are worse than other times. At the moment it’s not too bad, i.e, it’s not keeping me awake at night, but I still have the incessant throat-clearing all the time.

I recently went to see an ENT specialist about another issue but I mentioned the post-nasal drip, and she had a theory that it wasn’t post-nasal drip at all, but rather, was anxiety causing me to clench my throat muscles almost all the time. She suggested referring me to someone who could show me some exercises to help with this. I haven’t followed up yet though.
