Bulls eye rash?

SockFluffInTheBath · 13/10/2023 17:02

Non-descript red and sore patch for 3 weeks now turned into this today. There was a bug bite 4-5 weeks ago, bug not seen. Prescribed mometasone furoate 2 weeks ago which has done nothing. GP again on Monday?

Yes

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 13/10/2023 17:11

That's an a&e job as it looks like lymes disease and you need urgent antibiotics.

Gifflon · 13/10/2023 17:14

@SockFluffInTheBath

That looks exactly like a Lyme disease rash, and you MUST see a GP and get antibiotics ASAP. If you leave it, it can lead to all sorts of complications and a lengthy illness. Look up Lyme Disease.

DumpedByText · 13/10/2023 17:15

That looks like ringworm possibly?

Not every tick bite gives you Lyme disease. My friend was sent to A&E (really!) to have a tick removed. They said they only give antibiotics if people actually become unwell.

SlightlyJaded · 13/10/2023 17:19

Agree that looks like a tick which COULD lead to lyme disease. Get seen asap

Zzizzisnotzeproblem · 13/10/2023 17:21

I think they will give you treatment because that is a classic bullseye rash and the quicker those antibiotics knock it out the less likely you are to have long term issues. Here the GP would squeeze you in and prescribe but you might need a and e if you’re less rural.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 13/10/2023 17:21

Looks fungal

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 13/10/2023 17:22

Re reading as there was a bite I'd get yourself seen. Ring 111 for advice.

Idrankyourbananamilk · 13/10/2023 17:50

Microbiologist here. Get to a&e. With the classic rash and the history of the bite they should absolutely give you antibiotics for lyme as a precaution.

capabilityfrowns · 13/10/2023 18:08

The treatment is doxycycline twice a day for a month and it's the same at every stage - rhe fsct you have the rash is enough

I've got Lyme disease that went untreated and it's hellish. It taken away any quality of life i had and is proving difficult to recover from .

SockFluffInTheBath · 13/10/2023 18:08

Good luck OP. Any progress yet?

gamerchick · 13/10/2023 20:01

If it was a ringworm, you would have probably noticed it before it got that big like, surely?

fluffiphlox · 13/10/2023 20:02

Tick bite.

SockFluffInTheBath · 13/10/2023 20:24

No progress, he read this and decided to call 111 first 🙄 waiting for the clinician to call back. If they ring back at 11 and tell him to go to A&E at witching hour me and him will be having words!

Any update OP?

SockFluffInTheBath · 19/10/2023 15:19

Sorry, didn’t go to A&E and the GP reckons ringworm, so he has some cream. Thanks for the inputs though, it’s hard from a little photo on a screen.

I’d try another GP. I had the same bullseye rash after an insect bite and got the antibiotics because they said testing for Lyme took too long and it was considered best practice to medicate as if it was, regardless…

Idrankyourbananamilk · 19/10/2023 21:29

You don’t get ringworm from a bite. I’d echo seeing a different GP and stress that this happened after being bitten.

capabilityfrowns · 19/10/2023 23:13

I'd urge caution op , I have what was undiagnosed Lyme and it's culminated in me losing the sight in my right eye, crippling inflammatory arthritis , chronic fatigue, I've not worked for 3 months .

I'd honestly ask for a second opinion, that rash after a bite screams Lyme to me and if it's left it causes absolute misery. Mine went undiagnosed for years .
