Hi there

Has anyone heard of this and knows what it is? My mum has been sent to hospital as her gp thinks she has it. I've googled but it's all bringing up cancer so stopped googling.

Any help appreciated.

It's usually a word associated with cancer. Is that a possibility with your DM or might she have misheard?

GrandTheftWalrus · 11/10/2023 15:16

No she won't have misheard, she was a nurse for nearly 40 years so understands medical things. It's me that doesn't understand. When I asked what it was she said a malignant growth but didn't say how they would treat it if it was.

They've thought she had cancer in past but every test/screening etc all came back clear and it's been something else.

She's seen a consultant and is waiting on some sort of test at the moment.

Thanks for reply.

at this point it just means an abnormal growth.
even in cancer some growths are begnin and some are invasive.

Thanks. Everything I read earlier said cancer so I started to panic. Hopefully nothing serious and gp being over cautious again.

Benign tumours are non cancerous. Not cancer, but some can become so over time.
Malignant tumours are cancerous. The presence of cancerous cells. More likely to grow rapidly and spread.

Yeah that's what Google was telling me. I'm hoping it's all okay though.
