High Positive FIT Test

My mother today received results of a high positive fit test - Following a ‘non urgent’ test results appointment over the phone with the doctor…after 4 weeks of sending the results away!

I’m really worried and looking for a hand hold. The GP didn’t give a figure, but said the results were ‘twice the amount I would be happy with.’ She has been referred for an urgent colonoscopy (she is with BUPA so I’m really hoping this will be very soon). Her father passed away with bowel cancer 30 years ago.

I feel sick with worry and can’t calm down.

My Mum was called 3 days after sending her FIT test off. She was told she had an abnormally high reading in her sample and was put on the pathway.
Due to absences her colonoscopy had to he cancelled but in the meantime she was retested and it was borderline normal high. They then took the decision to no scan her but keep her monitored. Something I don't particularly agree with given her history but at least the blood reading had significantly reduced.

For context she has so many symptoms to suggest the worst and they have been going on for a long time so when I found out about the call I was so scared.

Does your Mum have any symptoms? Sorry tmi, but was her sample a 'normal motion' or was it on the side of runny/soft

@Purpleseaside different age gap. I'm 31 but had all red flag symptoms, blood and mucus in stool, urgency to go etc. FIT came back mega high. Referrred for urgent colonoscopy and found I had UC but had convinced myself of the worst. Also a tear or hemarroids can detect the blood in a FIT test too. The worry is the worst.

@Purpleseaside I'm possibly in a similar age range to your mum in my early 60's Earlier this year I had a FIT test of over 400 and got referred on the 2 week wait cancer pathway as I was passing blood and mucus. Had a colonoscopy and turned out to be a mild colitis flare which settled right down with the right medication

OP, I'm in my 60s and do FIT tests annually (family history). Last Sept, fit test ok. Aug this year, FIT test of over 200. (I had bought a private screening pack from Check4Cancer and I was phoned within 3 days of submitting the test).

Colonoscopy within 2 weeks on NHS and I had a large polyp and a smaller one. Both removed. Both benign. Thank goodness for testing. Polyps apparently take 10 years to turn into something nasty.

I wouldn't be happy with that either @Needanewadventure2021
