Has anyone signed up to the "Our Future Health" medical research?

I was just wondering if anyone else has signed up to this.

It's a research project aiming to predict future health conditions. They are aiming for upto 5 million people to be part of it.

I got an invitation letter last week and signed up to take part. I have the health check and blood test booked for later this week.

I am. The tests were done quickly and got results there and then for cholesterol. Haven’ t heard anything further.

webster1987 · 09/10/2023 14:53

I have yes. Only filled in the forms etc so far but have my blood donation in January so will start from there I think.

Danikm151 · 09/10/2023 14:57

Yep. Months ago. I think they need a lot more people to sign up before they can get results though.

ChimChimeny · 09/10/2023 15:00

Yes.I have, and.I know.of one colleague who has too.
Haven't booked my health check yet because the most convenient Boots still.isn't that convenient so I need to time it right

TheSpottedZebra · 09/10/2023 15:08

I got the letter, then... forgot to anything. I was interested though!

Per above, is it that you have the health check at Boots?

Seainasive · 09/10/2023 15:13

I got the letter inviting me to join last week and am still undecided. I feel slightly weird about letting them sample my DNA and access to all current and future health data. Not that I have anything to hide!

Cannas · 09/10/2023 15:51

I did it and attended the appointment a couple of weeks back. It was in a portacabin at a supermarket, a bit like the mammogram ones.
There was nothing they could not have got from my medical records.
They are supposed to pay you £10 for expenses but I haven't had it (it was over an hour round trip for me)

Lindy2 · 09/10/2023 17:54

Mines in a supermarket car park too. I had quite a few options of places to go that weren't very far away.

I am in quite a densely populated area though.

I just thought it might be interesting although I'm not sure how much information they will share with participants.

I came away with a sheet with my height, weight, BP and cholesterol. Don't think they share blood test results - the cholsterol was a finger prick.

Lifeinlists · 09/10/2023 18:10

Yes me. I had my first visit in early January - not the best time to be weighed. All v low key though no travel expenses. I did get a £10 Tesco voucher for the Galleri trial which is for cancer prediction via a single blood test. I'm happy to help the research for nothing.

BeforetheFlood · 09/10/2023 20:36

That sounds interesting Lifeinlists Do you get to know any results from that blood test?

BHRK · 09/10/2023 20:37

Yes, I love helping research

Neighneigh · 09/10/2023 20:39

We signed up, dh went along, came back with an insanely high cholesterol level, really worried him, had to go to gp who said they are getting a lot of incorrect readings. GP measurements were well within sensible limits....

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 09/10/2023 20:50

We are also partnered with charities and industry, who are providing expertise and part of the funding needed to set up and deliver our programme

Call me cynical but I'd like more info on what these industry partners are getting in return for this funding. And who they are.

Marygoesround · 09/10/2023 21:06

Quite, Mrs Dancers. I applied for s job with them and concluded it was all very creepy. A private company gaining access to your private data and DNA, for what? No thanks

MedSchoolRat · 09/10/2023 21:35

xH signed up. That's a good thing because usually men are hard to recruit, end up under-represented in these types of studies.

You get put into either a control group or the active research group but you don't get told which.
However, if you are in the active one and your tests show cancer markers that they're looking for, then they will contact you. Which I suppose is sort of positive.

I think it's running for 3 or 4 years. I've been twice now and did read something about the trial throwing up some promising results. Hope so.

I know this thread is old but I came back from my Future Health appointment today and was also worried about their cholesterol readings. Mine were high yet the GP tested in April for other reasons and all readings were good then. It's only three months ago and my diet has not changed and I'm exercising more so can't understand how it went from healthy to unhealthy. Anyone else? I don't really want to go back to the GP as they tested so recently. Not sure whether to feedback to Future Health.

@V1lucky your post is very misleading. The op is in the UK and there is no payment involved and you must be referring to another organisation entirely. Please can you have it removed or deleted? I am nothing to do with the Uk one but it is a research project and I did signup and off myself for their research purposes. It is not a medical insurance company.

Fleetheart · 30/01/2025 02:29

My cholesterol test came back high; they advised me to go to GP which I did. It was still high but not quite so bad. Apparently the reason is that the pinprick test is less accurate than the actual proper blood test. For me it was a useful alert. I’m not really bothered about what they can use my DNA for. I think it’s a useful tracking study which will only come to fruition over the next few decades but it will demonstrate the early markers for certain diseases etc that should enable early identification and hence better treatments. So it’s a good thing surely.

Lindy2 · 30/01/2025 14:04

Does anyone know if any follow up appointments are planned for Our Future Health or is it just a 1 off thing?

I've not heard anything since my initial appointment and blood test which is fine but seeing this post again made me wonder.

I've lost 2 and a half stone since my original appointment and I'm a lot fitter now than I was then. I'd rather like an upgrade on the information they hold for me!

HyacinffBookay · 30/01/2025 14:21

I signed up a year or two ago and completed the questionnaire and any assessments required but not heard anything via email about my health or the study since. I’m healthy though so I suppose I’m not expecting to hear anything.
