I have had hip and buttock pain for years. Over the years I've had a couple of different diagnosis and treatment plans that never really helped, and so I have struggled on, with it coming and going, but always niggling at best, and disabling at worse. Anyway have just had an MRI and it has shown bilateral hamstring origin tendinopathy and right gluteal insertion tendinopathy. Dr Google has said it can be chronic but should recover in weeks, months at most. For me, this started about 8 years ago! The last couple of years I have been on high strength NSAIDS due to another condition and this has maybe eased it a bit, but clearly hasnt healed it. Why is it not settling? And what can I do about it? Any advice would be amazing.

I would like to know how you are doing?
I am 38 and suddenly started with this agonising pain in May 😢
By physical assessment they have said I have this Gluteal tendinopathy Which is causing the hip pain.
I have pushed for an MRI though to see what else is going on.
I'm at my wits end with this with running around after the kids - one being a toddler

@Lillybobs86 It turned out it was a symptom of a condition I have called axial spondyloarthritis (AxSpA.) This is a pain condition where joints become inflamed and very painful, so I dont know why my doctors were so convinced it was unrelated. However, I started a new medication for the AxSpA last December, and the hip pain settled down about 90% within a month, and has stayed away, which was pretty conclusive!

Have you tried anything other than pain killers? Anti-inflammatories such as naproxen might be worth a try if you haven't already? Hope you get it resolved, it is miserable.

@Pancaked I was interested to read your post as I have just been diagnosed like @Lillybobs86 with the same issue as her. How did they diagnose the Axial S in the end? Was it through the mri?
