I wonder if someone can help. My 8 week old son suffers from very bad wind. He is also very snuffly and has saline drops to help to clear his nose which do help temporarily. This can make it difficult to feed as he is bunged up and finds it difficult to breath and suck at the same time. We started off with baby born free bottles which are special anti-colic bottles (and which are supposed to be more advanced then the Dr Brown ones). The ear, nose and throat doctor we went to see said he also had a lot of reflux though I do not think it is very bad.

The GP today suggested we change the teats on his bottles as although they are stage 1 the flow sees too fast for him and dribbles out of his mouth. If you turn the bottle upside down she said the drips should only be one per second and the teat we are using are coming out faster then that. Does anyone have any suggestion for a slower flow teat? Any other suggestions to help with the wind would also be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know if this helps but my ds had really bad reflux when he was newborn and we went through every conceivable brand of bottle and nothing helped - he would choke in air on even the slowest teats.

What worked for us was a haberman feeder (now called a medela special needs feeder I believe) Absolutely fantastic - they are designed for children who have difficulty sucking but work brilliantly for children who have wind or reflux - they work like breast feeding in that milk never comes out of the teat unless the baby sucks so no dripping or choking and no wind! You can also adjust the flow on them aswell just by turning the bottle in the baby's mouth.

They are hideously expensive at about £17 for one - I have 3 and I replace the teats every few months (£17 for 3 new teats) and it was the best investment I made!
